Wellington Thursday favourites for title after comeback victory in top of table clash @RileysCardiffWS #snooker

The match of the night in the Thursday League this week was obviously down at Canton Libs as the top 2 battled it out. In a match where there were some quality names in the mix, Canton Libs A started out with a 2 -0 lead after wins by Ralph Welch and Anthony Andrews over Layton Brooks and Jon Hillard respectively. The next match on was the much anticipated meeting between Huw Carpenter and Steve King. This match proved to be the turning point as Carpenter snatched the frame on the black. Next came the wiley old fox Tom Cross against Adam Jones, TC ended up winning the frame to force a decider. The decider was played between Ben Chung and Dennis McNamara which went the way of the Wellington Thursday to record a remarkable comeback and win 3 -2 to now be heavy favourites to win the league as they are now level on points with their rivals but with that important game in hand.

The next match was for the battle for 3rd place between SWS and Roath Labour. Once again this was a closely fought match which went the way of Roath Labour 3 -2 helped by a 48 break from James Facey.
Taffs Well made up ground in the battle for 3rd place after a 4 – 1 over Canton Libs B, although the match could have been much closer as 2 frames could have gone either way, but an enjoyable night all the same. Senghenydd stopped Trec B in their tracks to record a 3 – 2 win to move into 6th. KO cup semi finalists No Balls recorded a shock 3 – 2 win over in form Canton Libs Z to complete a bad night for the Libs! Elsewhere Cathays Cons were thumped 5 – 0 by Rumney BL.

With 5 weeks to go, only 4 players realistically can win the averages league table. These are Steve King (4 games left), Huw Carpenter (5), Kevin Jones (4) and Macauley Cole (5).
