CDSL 2013-14 Season Week 1

The Cardiff & District Snooker League 2013-14 season has kicked off with some thrilling results. Premier Division Champions, Savoy, were whitewashed 5-0 at home by the team who have been so close in past seasons, County Cons. Savoy had their usual line up but looked even stronger with the addition of Sam Thomas, formerly of Penarth Road Snooker Centre. However, County Cons showed why they are such a solid and difficult team to beat as they battled their way to the maximum 6 points. The remaining three matches in the Premier Division were close 3-2 scores. Canton Libs A lost to newly named Penarth Road B, formerly Fairwater Cons, on a deciding frame. Promoted Division 1 Champions, Canton Libs Z travelled to former Div 1 Champions, Mackintosh Thursday, losing on the final black of the 5th frame. Penarth Road A rounds off the Prem Div fixtures for Week 1 with a win over Trecenydd A.
Newcomers Cuesaders started their first campaign with a 5-0 win over Canton Libs B. Park Club were comfortable 4-1 home winners against Senghenydd. Wellington Rileys were final frame winners away to the always improving young team Trec Bandits. League Cup Champions, Cathays Cons, fought back from 2-0 at Taffs Well to win 3-2 in a dramatic turn around.
So the first week of the season starts win both of last year’s divisional champions and highest ranked players (that played) losing, nine 30+ breaks, newcomers on 100% and four final frame deciders. Let’s hope there will more action in the weeks to come.
