CDSL 2013-14 Season Week 3

The league leaders coming into week 3, County Cons, have a bye so this round of fixtures is an opportunity for the chasing pack to catch up. In the battle of the league champions, Savoy walked away with maximum points with a 5 – 0 win against Canton Libs B and thus jumped up the table a few places to joint second place with Penarth Road ‘B’ who, as of a couple of weeks ago, were not expecting to be playing a derby game this season. They were the home team and played host to, well, their hosts, Penarth Road ‘A’. Captain Huw Thomas got the B team to the best start possible with a win over Anthony Davies, making a 36 break on the way. The match went to a final frame decider which was won by the former Fairwater Cons. Mack Sports triumphed in another final frame decider away at Canton Libs A while Mack Thursday lost 4-1 to Trec A which is only the 2nd time the former Div 1 champions have lost more than 3 frames in a league match. County hang on to top spot by a point without even playing a match but are also only 3 points ahead of three teams at equal 5th place.
Cuesaders extended their lead by just a little bit with a 5 – 0 victory away against the kids of Trec Bandits. It may be another loss for the kids but team captain Andrew Bridle is very pleased with the improvement his players are showing every week and despite the convincing score line, a couple of frames went down to the wire. Taffs Well climb the table with a 4 – 1 win against Wellington Rileys, only missing out on the whitewash in the last frame of the match. Meanwhile last year’s Division 1 runners up Senghenydd had a final-frame captain vs captain battle away at Cathays Cons. Tony scores a victory over Div 1 Rankings champion Dave Standage to win the match. Rumney BL capture their first win of the season against Canton Libs B 3 – 2.
The league tables have been updated along with the breaks board that had 5 new entrants in the Premier Division. It seems Penarth Road are home to the league’s break builders but Jason Hewitt of Mack Sports is well in the lead with a 92 from week 2. Player rankings are up for both leagues too.
