Canton win a thriller to seal the Handicap Cup

In a night of tension and close frames, Canton Libs A made up for the disappointment of their Premier Cup Final defeat by winning the Mac Keenor Handicap Cup 3-2 against Trecenydd Bandits. The youngsters took control of the match after Macauley Cole beat Terry Garland and Dylan Emery defeated Twm Jones to leave them one frame from victory. The third frame was very close, but Steve Flanagan held his nerve to pot a tricky pink to beat Dan Bridle and keep his team alive. Kishan Hirani then beat Liam Mortimer in a very good frame to set up a decider between Ed Topham and Ethan Chichester. A 30 break by Topham put him in control and was a snooker up on the green. However, a foul when Topham’s shirt touched the black gave Trec a lifeline, with Chichester taking the frame to the pink. However, a great double by Topham sealed to match and title for Canton, leaving Trecenydd to ponder what might have been.
