Title Race Going to the Wire

The Premier League title is getting very tight with only two weeks left of the season, as the big match of the week saw Savoy face leaders Taff’s Well B knowing only a big win would keep them in contention. The match was very close with all 5 frames decided on the pink or black, and Savoy looked like getting the decisive victory they needed as they went 3-1 ahead. It was left to Taff’s Well B’s captain Tom Cross to limit the damage for the leaders, as his victory meant the Barry side could only gain two points on their title rivals with a 3-2 win.

It is looking like a two-horse race as Canton Libs A took advantage of Taff’s Well’s third defeat in six matches by beating Park Cons 4-1, to close the gap to just two points. Crucially, the win means that Canton have the same amount of wins as the leaders, which could have a bearing on the destination of the title if points are level. It means every frame will be vital as the title race enters its nerve-wracking conclusion.

Cuesaders consolidated their place in fourth as they comfortably beat Canton Libs B 5-0, which was notable for only the fourth defeat of the season for Rory Wigmore, ending his hopes of catching Tom Cross at the top of the individual rankings. Canton Libs Z have climbed into fifth place as the beat Senghenydd 3-2, while Taff’s Well A lost by the same scoreline at Rumney British Legion. The other match of night saw Cathays Cons defeat South Wales Snooker 4-1 to stay in touch for the race for fifth place.
