Senghenydd Clinch Plate Title

Senghenydd won the first trophy of the season this week after they beat Park Cons 3-2 in a deciding frame in the Handicap Plate Final. There was not much to choose between the teams as the momentum changed after each frame, and the opening frame looked like it would be pivotal as Chris Richards made an excellent 25 clearance to beat John-Henry Griffiths to give Park the early lead. They looked like they would go two ahead, as Mike Boucher lost his tip halfway through the frame and had to swap cues, but Adrian Poynter couldn’t take advantage, to allow Senghenydd to draw level.

Park once again took the advantage after Bernard Hutchings produced the performance of night to beat Carl Dimond, leaving them one frame from victory. The crucial fourth frame went to the colours, but a tricky green was missed by James Facey to allow Dai Sherman the opportunity to take the match to a decider.

It was left to John Palkowski and Tony Thomas to battle it out, but a solid potting performance by John meant that Senghenydd took the final frame and the title of CDSA 2016 Handicap Plate Champions.
