The opening night of the 2019-20 CDSA season was an exciting and dramatic affair as there were close matches and tight finishes across the league.

The stand-out fixture was the match-up at the Mackintosh as last year’s top two went up against each other to set an early marker for the season ahead. There were plenty of big names on show as last year’s player of the year Jason Hewitt got the home side off to a flying start, but the first head-to-head between two of the stars of the league went to Savoy as Sam Thomas beat Alan Hurley, which including a 43 break by the Barry potting machine. The remaining three frames were split in favour of the Mack given them a 3-2 victory and a message to the champions that the title race is going to a close and exciting one that is set to go all the way.

Last year’s Division One champions Canton Libs B pushed Taff’s Well very close with some tight frames that resulted in a 3-2 win for last year’s Malcolm Keenor Trophy runners-up. Cuesaders started the season strongly with a 4-1 win over Llandaff Warriors, whilst Canton Libs Z won away to Rumney British Legion by the same scoreline.

A strengthened Fairwater Cons side overcame a 2-0 deficit at home to Senghenydd to win 3-2 with Steve Flanagan clinching the deciding frame, with Cathays Cons beating Trecenydd Snooker in another close match with went to the pink in the final frame, with Darren Gill sealing the victory.
