Wellington Thursday close to their first title #cardiff #snooker #rileys

As with Fairwater in the Tuesday League, Wellington Thursday stand on the brink of the Thursday League title. After last week’s matches and the withdrawal of No Balls, they and Canton Libs A are tied at the top. If Welly Thursday better the champions’ result this week they will be champions, and even if they don’t they have a game extra to clinch the title. In the rankings one more win for Steve King will give him the title, if he loses Huw Carpenter could nick it on the last day.

Last week, Wellington Thursday beat Roath Labour 3 – 2, whilst Canton Libs A beat Fellow KO Cup finalists Rumney BL 5 – 0. SWS stay in a distant 3rd after beating Canton Libs B 3-2 helped by a 53 break from Che Di Mauro. Roath Labour are 4th after their loss to the title challengers. Senghenydd are in 5th after not playing. Taffs Well also didn’t play and stay in 6th. Canton Libs Z won a decider against Cathays Cons. Trec B beat Gower 3 – 2 to stay in the top half of the table. Finally Trec C were awarded a 5 -0 win after Savoy failed to field a side.

No Balls drop out of Thursday League

It has been confirmed that No Balls are dropping out of the Thursday League with just two weeks to go. The league table and rankings will take into account their departure after this week’s update.

Fairwater on the brink of another title #cardiff #snooker

Fairwater are now on the brink of a third Tuesday League title in four years after Penarth British Legion’s heavy defeat against in-form Trecenydd. Fairwater were made to work hard to beat Penarth Road 3-2, and relied on Terry Garland winning another decider this time against Lewis Griffiths. Penarth were short of key players and lost 4-1 at Trecenydd, who are now favourites for third spot after four wins in a row. Just two frames for Fairwater at Penarth next week will be sufficient for them to clinch the title with a match to spare.

The Savoy were unable to play against Wellington and therefore are deducted 6 points. The rankings haven’t yet been updated, but another win for Rhys Carpenter puts him in a very strong position to win his first rankings title after Neil Tomkins lost and Mark Bennett didn’t play.

Penarth BL back on top but Fairwater remain favourites after close win #penarth #snooker

Penarth British Legion moved back to the top of the Tuesday League as they gained one point on Fairwater with an impressive 4–1 victory over in-form Mackintosh. County nearly damaged Fairwater’s title bid but lost narrowly thanks to a brilliant 53 break by Terry Garland in the decider. Fairwater still have that crucial game in hand and remain big favourites for a third title in four years. Shaun Wicks recorded the highest break of the week with a 69 as Trecenydd beat Penarth Road.
