The race for the 2022-23 Premier League title is too close to call at the halfway stage of the season as both Fairwater sides registered their eighth win to stay ahead at the top of the table.

Fairwater Cons Mack have a two-point lead after they beat Rumney British Legion, but they had to overcome a 1-0 deficit after a shock win for Alex Ellis over in-form Brian Rees gave his side the perfect start. Jason Hewett quickly restored parity thanks to a 46 break to defeat Paul Chichester and Alan Hurley made it 2-1 with a win over Frank Deriu. Khurram Khan’s victory over John Huggins made sure of the win and Ronnie Allen sealed a good night’s work for his side after he beat Andy Magill.

Champions Fairwater Cons have had a tricky couple of weeks and a hat-trick of defeats was narrowly avoided as they edged a 3-2 win away to RBL Warriors. Twm Sion Jones and Terry Garland got them off to a great start with wins over Simon Takata and Chris Johnson respectively, but Nick Davis pulled one back with victory over Shaun O’Connell. A 30 break and a fluked green allowed Mike Watts the opportunity to take the match to a deciding frame after he beat Ben Griffiths and what a decider it was as Steffan Davies won 80-79 on the black against Dave Richards in one of the frames of the season so far.

Beech Tree Hotel are comfortable in third place after a resounding 4-1 defeat of Canton Libs with Dan Bridle winning the opener on the black against Ed Topham. Tony Williams made it 2-0 with a win over James Wigmore and Mike Pardoe’s win over James Facey sealed the win. Declan O’Callaghan kept up his outstanding individual form to comfortably beat Day Rideout to pull one back, but Ciaran Paul finished things off for Beech Tree after he defeated Tony Chick.

With the league splitting into two divisions, Savoy are top of Division One after they missed out on staying in the Premier League despite a 4-1 win over Mackintosh Snooker with a 68 break from Ryan Rowlands being the individual highlight of the week.

Cathays Cons secured their place in the Premier League with a close 3-2 win over Taff’s Well with Jason Summerhayes beating Tom Cross in the first frame, before Rhys Carpenter levelling things up with a win over Martin Evans. Jimmy Llewellyn defeated Darren Gill to put Taff’s Well 2-1 up but a black ball win for Dave Earls against Kevin Brown sent the match to a decider, with Ryan Bowgen beating Rob Hayes to give Cathays the win.
