In this week’s Tuesday League action, County might have wanted all five frames from Potters Bar – the writer himself is the reason that they did not get them, as new player Dan Lewis handed out something of a beating. Otherwise, County’s 4 frames moved them to a slightly unexpected top spot, because Fairwater didn’t manage to recover their form. That meant Trec jumped closer to the leaders, though stayed fourth, thanks to their 3-2 away win. Trec must surely wonder where they could be if they had even sent two players to the first match of the season, which they forfeited.
Mackintosh were hindered by Cardiff City’s home game, but Penarth Legion look like the kind of side who could have a significant say in the outcome of the league, by beating sides contesting the title. A side with Jay, Clive and Neil, plus Alan Cook with his remarkable record for the season, is a real test, and Trec face them soon. The Legion beat Mack 3-2 to win their sixth in a row and end Mackintosh’s similar winning steak, while Penarth Road lost narrowly to Savoy 3-2, with a 61 break from Ryan Rowlands as a consolation.
County against Fairwater next week could lead to one side beginning to fade away from the title race, or could just ensure that it will be closer than ever. Here’s hoping for a final week of the season where four different teams could still take the trophy …
In the player rankings last year’s champion Spencer Symmons won his 14th win to maintain an outright lead but overall the top 5 all won to keep up the pressure including in form John Moore (7 in a row). Other in-form players Neil Tomkins and Ryan Rowlands also won to continue their rise up the table in recent weeks.
