In the Tuesday League last night Penarth British Legion completed their ‘LegionSlam’* on the final ball of the final frame, giving Fairwater the chance to move back to the top of the table which they duly did. With County losing, while Neil Tomkins knocked in a 52, Fairwater maximised their chance to gain and overhaul them, whitewashing Potters Bar.
County maybe offered the Legion the initiative by going two frames down, but with Jay and Neil reported to be in fine form by their skipper, we wonder if Tom was right and gave his team the best chance of winning by concentrating his resources later in the order. It was a thrilling game; players were good in defeat, especially Rob Hayes, who nearly produced one of The Clearances of all time.
Following Fairwater’s win last night, Potters Bar are now out of the way for both of the top two sides, and one wonders if Mack and Trec can catch them with similarly emphatic wins.
Mack suprisingly lost to the Uni, a fine win for the students and ex-students, with Dave Blake finding some form to win the decisive rubber. Meanwhile, Trec made the tricky trip to Barry, and were defeated 3-2, which is no disgrace, but they may feel their best chance of silverware, as in most years, lies in the Cups if they don’t gain a little ground ahead of their final fixture.
