Trec’s whitewash win over the Uni might make them the big Tuesday League winners of the week, although Penarth Legion’s walkover win over Potters Bar means they matched the 6 point return of the Valley side. But perhaps County dodged the biggest bullet, coming through a tough match against a good Savoy line-up with only one frame dropped, a result that other title rivals will do well to match. Mack themselves can feel that they are still just about in contention, through securing the bonus point against Penarth Road, who are now good enough to take frames off any side.
Breaks this week included a 44 from Rhys Carpenter, a 46 clearance from Sam Thomas of Penarth Road, a 52 from Luke Haines at County, and 65 from Kevin Brown.
County now lead the league table by three, but Fairwater’s game in hand could mean that they still hold the power, if they can overcome a weak run in recent weeks where they have lost more than they have won. Mack must be questioning whether they can hope to squeeze past three sides – for one or two to falter is possible, but three is unlikely. Trec, recently a Cup side more than a league team, will know that the final two weeks of the league season are likely to decide whether they are chasing a Double or just making up the numbers this year.
The top three in the player rankings all won and, with no games for John Moore or Neil Tomkins, opened up a gap that will probably be too far for those two players to make up.
