Fairwater Cons Mack edged closer to their title rivals and namesakes Fairwater Cons after they defeated Roath Cons 5-0 to reduce the gap to four points at the top of the Premier League. Jason Hewett won the opener against Rob Reid before Alan Hurley doubled their lead with a win over Presley Cornock. Brian Rees sealed the win after defeating Alan Wright, and a 43 break from Khurram Khan was enough to see off Andrew Champion, before a walkover frame for Ronnie Allen completed the whitewash for last season’s runners-up.
Champions Fairwater Cons’ unbeaten start to the season continued with an excellent 4-1 win over in-form Beech Tree Hotel. A 52 break from Twm Sion Jones against Dan Bridle put them 1-0 ahead, before Terry Garland beat Ciaran Paul on the blue. A comfortable win for Steffan Davies over Dai Rideout made it 3-0, but Mike Pardoe beat Shaun O’Connell to pull a frame back before a 35 break from Ben Griffiths was enough to defeat Chris Garwood and seal a very good night’s work for Steve Flanagan’s side.
Canton Libs are back into third place after a 3-2 win at home to Rumney British Legion, although they had to come from behind after Paul Chichester beat Luke Haines. One of the players of the season so far Declan O’Callaghan levelled the match after his win over Glyn Hayes, and James Facey made it 2-1 with his defeat of Andy Magill. Ed Topham sealed the win after beating Alex Ellis, but Albert Columbo won the last for Rumney against Canton captain James Wigmore.
Mackintosh Sports won a closely-fought match 3-2 against Taff’s Well to continue their unusual form of WLWLWLW so far this season. An entertaining opening frame was won on the black by Rhys Carpenter against Billy Connors but a lovely 38 break from Carlos Schiazza won a high-quality frame on the pink against Jimmy Llewellyn. Jerry Connors made it 2-1 with a win over Glyn Jones, before Kevin Brown won comfortably against Mike Nessbert to take the match to a deciding frame, which was won by Nathan Dunne for Mackintosh against Rob Hayes.
The match between Savoy and RBL Warriors was also won by the odd frame as the Barry side won 3-2, although there was a surprise defeat for Mark Bennett in the opening frame against Dave Richards. Lee Greening made it 1-1 in a high-scoring frame versus Ken Linsey, and Dave Hurn put Savoy ahead after a comfortable win over Mike Watts. Colin Lane made it 3-1 after he beat Simon Takata but the Warriors won the last with Ben Harding beating Geoff Sheppard.
