Fairwater Cons have been knocked off the top of the Premier League table for the first time this season after their derby rivals Fairwater Cons Mack won 4-1 to edge ahead in the title race. Jason Hewett won the opener against Twm Sion Jones with breaks of 30 and 41, before Alan Hurley beat Shaun O’Connell in a close frame on the pink to double their lead. Brian Rees sealed the win after he defeated Terry Garland and it got better for last year’s runners-up when Khurram Khan beat Steve Flanagan to make it 4-0. However, the whitewash was averted when Ben Griffiths’ contributions of 28 and 37 was enough to win a consolation frame against Ronnie Allen.

There’s a three-way tie for third place after Cathays Cons beat Beech Tree Hotel 3-2 with Jason Summerhayes getting them off to the perfect start with a comfortable win against Dai Birkenshaw. Dan Bridle levelled the match with a win over Dave Standage and they went 2-1 up after Craig Fletcher beat Mike Rathkey. Dave Earls made sure the match went to a decider with victory over Dai Rideout, but a 45 break from Ryan Bowgen was enough to defeat Ciaran Paul and give Cathays the win.

With the league splitting into two divisions next week at the halfway stage, Mackintosh Snooker have all but made sure of a spot in the Premier League after a 4-1 win over RBL Warriors. Billy Connors won the opening frame on the colours against Nick Davis and Carlos Schiazza made it 2-0 with a win over Clive Marsh. Nathan Dunne and Jerry Connors doubled their lead with wins over Chris Johnson and Jason Veal respectively, before Dave Richards won a consolation frame for the Warriors after he beat Michael Nessbert.

Taff’s Well have kept their chance of a top six finish alive after a 3-2 win away to Rumney British Legion, but they had to come from behind after Frank Deriu beat Jimmy Llewellyn in the first frame, but Tom Cross made it 1-1 after Tony Parkin unluckily went in-off after potting an excellent black in their frame. Andy Magill restored Rumney’s lead with victory over Glyn Jones but wins for Kevin Brown over Glyn Hayes and Rob Hayes against Paul Chichester gave Taff’s Well the win.

Roath Cons are still searching for their first league win of the season but they once again took a side close as they lost 3-2 to Savoy. They started brilliantly with a win for Phil Storer against Mark Bennett, but Dave Hurn’s win over Alan Wright and Lee Greening’s defeat of Andrew Champion put the Barry side 2-1 up. Geoff Sheppard made sure of the win after he beat Presley Cornock before Lee Cornock won the final frame against Alex Lane.
