Cathays Cons’ 3-2 defeat of Fairwater Cons Mack has left the title race level after the resumption of the Premier League following the Christmas break, with Ryan Bowgen beating Jason Hewett in the opening frame thanks to a 38 clearance. Dave Standage doubled their lead with victory over Alan Hurley, but a 45 break from Brian Rees against Dave Earls kept Fairwater in the match. Khurram Khan kept up his impressive form to make it 2-2 with a win against Jason Summerhayes, but Mike Rathkey won the decider versus Ronnie Allen to give Cathays the points.

Premier League champions Fairwater Cons won 3-2 at Savoy, but had to come from behind after a superb 89 break from Mark Bennett (the highest of the season so far) defeated Shaun O’Connell, before Terry Garland beat Lee Greening to level the match. Steffan Davies won against Colin Lane, but Geoff Sheppard’s win over Steve Flanagan wasn’t enough as a bye for Ben Griffiths in the fifth frame gave Fairwater the win.

Mackintosh Snooker’s continued good form continued as they beat Roath Cons 5-0 to move up to third in the table, whilst RBL Warriors won a close Rumney derby 3-2, but were a frame down after Alex Ellis beat Dave Richards. However, wins for Nick Davis over Albert Columbo and Chris Johnson against Andy Magill put the Warriors ahead, and Jason Veal’s defeat of Frank Deriu gave his side the win, but Paul Chichester’s victory against Mike Watts sealed the final frame for Rumney.

Canton Libs won 3-2 at Taff’s Well despite only having four players as Ed Topham won the opener against Tom Cross to get them off to an excellent start, which was followed up with a black-ball win for Rory Wigmore over Jimmy Llewellyn. The result was sealed thanks to a 37 break by Luke Haines to beat Kevin Brown, but Rob Hayes won a consolation on last against Tony Chick to keep Taff’s Well in second place in Division One.
