Cathays Cons are the in-form team in the Cardiff and District Snooker League after a 3-2 win over RBL Warriors gave them their fourth win in a row to help move them up to joint-third in the Premier League. Ryan Bowgen got them off to an excellent start with a comfortable win over Chris Johnson, but Jason Veal levelled the match with a dramatic win over Jason Summerhayes on a respotted black. Darren Gill’s 40 break was enough to see off Nick Davis and Dave Standage’s defeat of Simon Takata gave them the win, before Dave Richards won a consolation frame for the Warriors after beating Mike Rathkey.

The title race is firmly a battle between the two Fairwater sides as they both registered big wins this week. Reigning champions Fairwater Cons whitewashed Roath Cons 5-0, with Shaun O’Connell winning the opening frame against Presley Cornock. Terry Garland maintained his excellent form with victory over Alan Wright, before Steffan Davies beat Andrew Champion to make it 3-0. Twm Sion Jones then beat Lee Cornock and Ben Griffiths rounded off the match with a 39 break in defeating Kerri Whiting.

However, it was Fairwater Cons Mack who secured the result of the week with a 4-1 win away to Canton Libs. Jason Hewett won the opener against Ed Topham before a 44 break from Alan Hurley saw him defeat Rory Wigmore. Brian Rees’s 59 clearance was the individual highlight of the week as he beat Declan O’Callaghan and they went 4-0 up when Khurram Khan kept up his fine form with victory over James Wigmore. They couldn’t quite match their rival’s result though as Luke Haines beat Ronnie Allen in the final frame to give Canton a consolation frame.

Beech Tree Hotel are in joint-third place in the Premier League after beating Taffs Well 4-1 with Dai Berkinshaw and Dan Bridle beating Jimmy Llewellyn and Tom Cross respectively to give them a 2-0 lead. Mike Pardoe made it 3-0 with a win over Glyn Jones, but captain Kevin Brown pulled one back after defeating Dai Rideout, before a very good final frame was won by Ciaran Paul against Rob Hayes to finish things off for Dan Bridle’s side.

That defeat for Taff’s Well wasn’t capitalised on by Division One rivals Savoy though as they lost 3-2 at Rumney British Legion, but they won the opening frame as Dave Hurn beat Albert Columbo. A 47 break saw Paul Chichester comfortably defeat Mark Bennett to make it 1-1, before Tony Parkin’s close win over Jeff Lane put his side ahead. Geoff Sheppard’s defeat of Frank Deriu took the frame to a decider, which Andy Magill won for Rumney against Alex Lane.
