Alan Hurley 42 (Fairwater Cons Mack)

The race for the 2023 Premier League title between the two outstanding sides in the CDSA continued this week as both sides registered 4-1 wins to ensure there was no change at the top of the table.

Fairwater Cons won a closely-fought match against Mackintosh Snooker, which was littered with quality frames and tight finishes as Twm Sion Jones won the opener against Deepak Singh and Carlos Schiazza levelled with victory over in-form Terry Garland. Steffan Davies then fought back from 30 points behind to beat Satinder Singh, before captain Steve Flanagan sealed the win after he beat Mike Nessbert on the blue. An excellent final frame rounded off the night with Nathan Dunne taking the frame to the pink after needing snookers, but Ben Griffiths edged it to give the champions a very good win.

Fairwater Cons Mack are keeping up the pressure after a 4-1 win over in-form Beech Tree Hotel with Jason Hewett winning the opening frame against Dan Bridle, before a 42 break from Alan Hurley was enough to overcome Ciaran Paul. Brian Rees made it 3-0 with a win over Mike Pardoe, but Chris Garwood pulled one back after he defeated Khurram Khan, but Ronnie Allen’s win against Dai Rideout sealed the result for his side.

Cathays Cons took advantage of that defeat for Beech Tree to consolidate third place after they won 3-2 at Savoy. Ryan Bowgen got them off to an excellent start after he comfortably beat Mark Bennett, before Dave Hurn made it 1-1 after beating Martyn Evans. Dave Earls restored Cathays’ lead with a win over Colin Lane and Darren Gill sealed the win after defeating Jeff Lane, but Geoff Sheppard won a consolation frame on fifth against Dave Standage.

RBL Warriors kept up their good form with a 3-2 home win against Canton Libs with new signing Nural Kham beating Ed Topham on first, before James Facey levelled things with victory over Jason Veal. Chris Johnson regained the lead for his side with a win against James Wigmore, but Declan O’Callaghan restored parity after he beat Nick Davis, but Dave Richards won the match for the Warriors after beating Tony Chick in the decider.

Rumney British Legion won 4-1 away to Roath Cons to keep up their chase for the Division One title with Tony Parkin and Alex Ellis putting them 2-0 up with wins over Presley Cornock and Kerri Whiting respectively. Glyn Hayes then won a close one against Alan Wright and Graeme Prance made it 4-0 with a win over Andrew Champion, before Lee Cornick won a consolation frame against Paul Chichester.
