Fairwater Cons Mack have increased their lead at the top of the Premier League after a closely-fought 4-1 win at Mackintosh Snooker to move four points clear of their title rivals Fairwater Cons. Brian Rees won the opener against Deepak Singh but Mackintosh quickly levelled after Carlos Schiazza comfortably beat Jason Hewett to make it 1-1. Alan Hurley remains top of the individual rankings after Satinder Singh went in-off the black after potting it and captain Ronnie Allen sealed the win with victory over Michael Nessbert, before Khurram Khan won an important frame against Nathan Dunne as they edge towards a first title since 2010.

Fairwater Cons were hoping to match their rival’s result at home to Taff’s Well and they started well with wins for Twm Sion Jones over Tom Cross and Ben Griffiths against Jimmy Llewellyn. Kevin Brown pulled one back after he defeated Terry Garland before the frame of the night saw Steve Flanagan pot an outstanding long black in a frame where he had been behind throughout against Glyn Jones. The final frame was a crucial one as Fairwater had learned of the Mack’s result but solid matchplay from in-form Rob Hayes saw him beat Steffan Davies to leave Fairwater needing to win the title decider next week.

Cathays Cons beat Canton Libs 3-2 to close the gap between the sides with Jason Summerhayes defeating Ed Topham in the opening frame and Martyn Evans doubled their lead after he won against James Facey. Declan O’Callaghan’s excellent season continued with victory over Darren Gill and James Wigmore levelled the match after comfortably beating Dave Standage, but a 54 break from Ryan Bowgen against Tony Chick, which was the highest of the week, gave his side the win.

The other notable break of the week came at Rumney British Legion as Paul Chichester’s 51 saw him beat Dan Bridle, but Mike Pardoe made it 1-1 after his win over Andy Magill. Tony Parkin restored Rumney’s lead after he beat Craig Fletcher but Dai Berkinshaw once again restored parity after defeating Alex Ellis, before Dai Rideout won the decider against Frank Deriu to keep Beech Tree in third-place in the table. RBL Warriors registered back-to-back victories for the first time this season as they won 4-1 at Roath Cons to close the gap on second-place Savoy.
