Fairwater Cons Mack are the 2022-23 CDSA Premier League champions after a night of drama saw them defeat title rivals Fairwater Cons 4-1 to move into an unassailable lead with one game remaining.

The two outstanding sides this season came into this match knowing that Cons needed a victory to give themselves a chance going into the final week of the season, and they got off to the perfect start with Twm Sion Jones making a 62 break to defeat Jason Hewett to go 1-0 ahead.

The next frame was pivotal as two of the top players in the league faced off with Alan Hurley sealing the win over Ben Griffiths thanks to a 37 break, and Khurram Khan put Mack ahead after beating Steffan Davies.

Brian Rees against Terry Garland was a tense affair as Cons knew they had to win the frame to keep their hopes of a hat-trick of titles alive but a 37 break from Rees was enough to win the match for the Mack.

The last frame started with Fairwater Cons needing to win it to take it to the final match of the season but it was left to captain Ronnie Allen to seal the league title after victory over Shaun O’Connell and give his side their first Premier League since 2010.

Taff’s Well are the Division One winners after they beat Rumney British Legion 4-1 to maintain their very good finish to the season and move ahead of challengers Savoy. Ian Purnell won the opener against Andy Magill and Rhys Carpenter’s 38 break doubled their lead versus Alex Ellis. Jimmy Llewellyn quickly made it 3-0 before another 38 break on the night for Kevin Brown with a clearance looking likely put his side 4-0 up, but Paul Chichester won a consolation frame against Glyn Jones.

The closest match of the night came at Beech Tree as Cathays Cons kept up their pursuit of third place with a 3-2 win, but they were 1-0 down after Dan Bridle beat Mike Rathkey in the opening frame. Dave Earls levelled the match with a closely-fought win over Mike Pardoe, before Jason Summerhayes put them ahead with victory against Craig Fletcher. A 46 break from Adam Jones made it 2-2 after he beat Ryan Bowgen, which took the match to a deciding frame with Darren Gill winning on the black against Dai Rideout.

RBL Warriors also won a close match against Mack Snooker with Nural Khan’s 57 break enough to win the opener versus Satinder Singh. Carlos Schiazza made it 1-1 with a win over Dave Richards, but Simon Takata put the Warriors back in front after he beat Billy Connors. Michael Nessbert’s win against Chris Johnson once again levelled the match, but Jason Veal’s win on the black over Nathan Dunne gave Johnson’s side the win.

Mark Bennett got Savoy off to a good start at home to Roath Cons with victory over Rob Reid and Jeff Lane made it 2-0 after he beat Alan Wright. Tony Storer pulled one back after defeating Alex Lane, but Colin Lane’s win against Phil Storer and Dave Hurn’s defeat of Andrew Champion gave the Barry side a 4-1 win.
