Dave Earls 35 (County Cons)

Fairwater Cons have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League after they won 3-2 at home to Taff’s Well in a closely-fought encounter. The match started with a tremendous opening frame between Twm Sion Jones and Ian Purnell, which was level heading into the colours, but a superb pink with the cueball on the cushion from Purnell gave the visitors the lead 1-0. Terry Garland continued his 100% league record as some solid potting saw him level the match against Glyn Jones, before the pivotal frame of the evening saw Jason Hewett come back to defeat Rhys Carpenter on the pink to give Fairwater the lead. Taff’s Well captain Kevin Brown restored parity as he comfortably beat Shaun O’Connell to take the match to a decider, but Steve Flanagan kept his place at the top of the individual rankings with team-mate Garland as he beat Rob Hayes to give his side the victory.

Caerphilly A moved into joint-second with Taff’s Well after they beat Roath Cons 4-1, although they had to come from behind after Rob Baker’s win over Steffan Davies in the opening frame. Khurram Khan made it 1-1 after defeating Andrew Champion, before Nural Khan had a walkover against Clive Marsh in the next. Ben Griffiths then sealed the win for his side after he beat Alan Wright and Ian Denton finished the match off with a win against Lee Cornock.

Mackintosh Snooker are in fourth place after they beat County Cons, who are still looking for their first win of the season, with Callum Jones winning the opener against Suhayb Din for the Mack, before Carlos Schiazza doubled their lead after defeating Darren Gill. Dave Standage reduced the deficit after his victory over Eassa Din, before Mike Nessbert made it 3-1 after beating Dave Earls despite his opponent making a 35 break and Nathan Dunne completed a very good night’s work for his side by defeating Martyn Evans.

Rumney British Legion are just behind the Mack in the table after they won 4-1 at home to Macky Misfits, with Paul Chichester winning against Renato Ridolini in the first frame. Ben Harding made it 2-0 after he beat Bill Bainton on the colours and Tony Parkin sealed the win after he defeated Steve Wellbeloved. Ethan Chichester’s close win over Rob Richards made it 4-0, but Satinder Singh’s defeat of Andy McGill gave the Misfits a consolation frame.

In the League Cup, Taff’s Well Warriors moved to the top of the table after their 3-2 win at home to Canton Libs, but the visitors went ahead with Luke Haines beating Luke Sheppard on the black in the opening frame. There was some excellent safety play from both players in the next frame with James Wigmore making it 2-0 with a win against Andy Holman, before Warriors’ captain Chris Johnson made breaks of 25, 26 and 27 in his victory over Tony Chick to take the match to the final doubles frame with all to play for. A tight frame ensued which went to the colours, with Simon Takata sinking pink and black to win the frame for him and his partner Dave Richards and against Chick and Wigmore.
