Caerphilly A maintained their unbeaten league record this week as they defeated title rivals Taff’s Well 3-2 to move into second place in the Premier League. They got off to a flyer as Rob McKenna and Nural Khan comfortably beat Ian Purnell and Rhys Carpenter respectively, before Ben Griffiths made it 3-0 after winning on the colours against Glyn Jones. However, Taff’s Well finished strongly with Jimmy Llewellyn beating Ian Denton and Kevin Brown defeating Steffan Davies to keep them in touch with their rivals.
However, they are both chasing Fairwater Cons after an excellent 5-0 away win to Mackintosh Snooker in a closely-fought match with lots of frames being decided on the final colours. Jason Hewett won the opening frame against Eassa Din, before Terry Garland won on the pink to defeat Carlos Schiazza to make it 2-0. A superb pink to land on the black from Luke Pitman saw him win another close one against Mike Nessbert, before Dan Bridle’s win over Nathan Dunne was again decided on the pink, with Steve Flanagan having a walkover in the final frame of the night.
Canton Libs kept up their good form with a third consecutive league win as they beat Macky Misfits 3-2, although they had to come from behind as Jacob Boyle won the opener versus Luke Haines. Declan O’Callaghan levelled the match with a win over Rob Richards, but Satinder Singh restored the Misfits’ lead with a black-ball win against Rory Wigmore. James Wigmore then defeated Deepak Singh to take the match to a decider with Tony Chick coming out on top against Bill Bainton to give Canton the win.
County Cons won their first league match of the season after they won 3-2 at Rumney British Legion, with Ryan Bowgen winning the first frame against Ethan Chichester. Paul Chichester then made it 1-1 after beating Mike Rathkey, before Dan Wardle gave County the lead with a win over Tony Parkin. Darren Gill then made sure of the win as he beat Frank Deriu, but Andy McGill pulled one back in the final frame against Dave Standage to keep Rumney in joint fourth place in the table.
Taff’s Well Warriors moved above Roath Cons after the won 5-0 at home to close the gap on the sides above them, as wins for Jason Veal against Rob Baker and Simon Takata versus Phil Storer saw them establish an early 2-0 lead. Dave Richards comfortably beat Clive Marsh to seal the win, before Geoff Sheppard’s defeat of Andrew Champion and Andy Holman’s win against Lee Cornock completed the whitewash for Chris Johnson’s side.
