Caerphilly A Win Title Clash

Caerphilly A have laid down a strong marker for the Premier League title as they won 3-2 at league leaders Fairwater Cons to move within two points of them at the top of the table. Rob McKenna led from the front as he defeated Twm Sion Jones in the opening frame, before Nural Khan cleared from the last red to beat Shaun O’Connell and make it 2-0. The third frame was a closely-fought contest as Dan Bridle looked like he might pull a frame back against Steffan Davies. However, he was unfortunate in snookering himself on the green, and the points given away in misses led to Davies sealing it and with it the match for Caerphilly. The two remaining frames were going to be very important though and Jason Hewett showed his class in the next against Ben Griffiths to win comfortably thanks to a superb 51 break, before Luke Pitman won on the last red versus Khurram Khan to ensure they kept the defeat to a minimum.

Taff’s Well remain third just behind the leaders as the won 3-2 at home to Rumney British Legion, with Rhys Carpenter dominating the opener against Ethan Chichester which featured a 37 break. Ben Harding levelled the match on the colours against Glyn Jones, before a tense third frame saw Jimmy Llewellyn lose position on the blue when clearing the colours against Paul Chichester. A loose safety followed and Chichester capitalised on the opportunity for him to win the frame to maintain his excellent individual start to the season. Another of the league’s in-form players was up next for Taff’s Well as Kevin Brown moved into joint-third place in the rankings after a tremendous display of potting saw him defeat Andy McGill to make it 2-2 and Rob Hayes won a scrappy final frame against Tony Parkin to give Taff’s Well the win.

Canton Libs are the form side in the league as they won 4-1 away to Roath Cons to continue the amazing turnaround in their season after they lost their opening four league matches of the season. Luke Haines won the first frame on the black against Alan Wright, before the Declan O’Callaghan produced the individual highlight of the week as an excellent 54 break saw him defeat Rob Reid. Ronnie Allen then made it 3-0 with a comfortable victory over Clive Marsh, before a string of breaks saw James Wigmore defeat Andrew Champion, but Lee Cornock won a consolation frame for Roath as he defeated Tony Chick.

County Cons remain at the foot of the table but they closed the gap on the teams above them with a 4-1 victory over Taff’s Well Warriors, with Dan Wardle winning the opening frame against Jason Veal. Mike Rathkey doubled their lead as he beat Andy Holman and Dave Earls sealed the win as he comfortably beat Chris Johnson. Simon Takata reduced the deficit after beating Suhayb Din, before Dave Standage capped off a good night’s work for his side with a win over Geoff Sheppard.

The League Cup continues to entertain as Mackintosh moved to the top of the table following a 4-1 win against Macky Misfits. Billy Connors won the first singles match against Satinder Singh and Eassa Din made it 2-0 after he beat Renato Ridolini. Jacob Boyle pulled one back with a win over Nathan Dunne to keep the match alive going into the doubles frame, but Mike Nessbert and Carlos Schiazza defeated Singh and Boyle to move the Mack into first place as we enter the halfway stage.
