Caerphilly A are top of the Premier League at the halfway stage of the CDSA 2024-25 season, after an impressive 5-0 win at home to Mackintosh Snooker moved them above title rivals Fairwater Cons on games won. The squad is littered with big names and one of those Nural Khan won the opening frame against Eassa Din thanks to a 43 break. Steffan Davies’s comfortable win over Nathan Dunne made it 2-0, before reigning Cardiff Open champion Khurram Khan defeated Billy Connors to seal the win. The week’s highest break of 51 saw Allan Morgan beat Mike Nessbert to make it 4-0 and captain Ben Griffiths’ victory over Carlos Schiazza completed the whitewash for his side.
Fairwater Cons are level on points with Caerphilly after they won 3-2 away to Rumney British Legion, with Twm Sion Jones winning the opener against Ethan Chichester. A 36 break from Jason Hewett saw him beat Paul Chichester, before Terry Garland suffered his first league defeat of the season at the hands of Tony Parkin. Luke Pitman’s win over Andy McGill made it 3-1, before another unbeaten record ended as Steve Flanagan lost to Ben Harding in the final frame.
Taff’s Well remain in third place, three points behind the top two after a 4-1 derby win against Taff’s Well Warriors, although they had to come from behind after Dave Richards defeated Ian Purnell in the opening frame. Tom Cross levelled the match after a hard-fought win against Chris Johnson on the pink, before Jimmy Llewellyn comfortably beat Mike Watts to make it 2-1. Kevin Brown moved to the top of the individual rankings after defeating Simon Takata, before the frame of the night saw Rob Hayes sink a tricky black against Brian Rees to seal a good evening for his side.
Canton Libs’ remarkable turnaround in form continued as they made it five wins in a row after beating County Cons 4-1 to move into fourth place in the table. County had got off to a good start as Ryan Bowgen beat Ronnie Allen in the first frame, but a 42 break from Declan O’Callaghan drew them level after he defeated Darren Gill. James Wigmore moved his side into the lead after his win over Dave Earls thanks to a 31 break and Luke Pitman’s 39 break was enough to defeat Dave Standage, before Tony Chick won the final frame against Mike Rathkey.
There was an entertaining match in the League Cup this week as Macky Misfits won 4-1 against Roath Cons to move into a top four spot. Jacob Boyle won the opening frame against Andrew Champion, before Renato Ridolini won a close frame on the pink versus Rob Reid to make it 2-0. Clive Marsh then pulled one back after he defeated Steve Wellbeloved, but the Misfits’ combination of Boyle and Wellbeloved won the doubles frame against Lee Cornock and Phil Storer to complete the win for Roath.
