Macky Misfits are top of Division One following the mid-season split, after a 4-1 win at home to Roath Cons saw them move three points ahead of rivals Mackintosh Snooker. Rob Richards comfortably won the opening frame against Andrew Champion, before Jacob Boyle doubled their lead with victory over Phil Storer. Steve Wellbeloved’s defeat of Clive Marsh and Renato Ridolini’s close win against Alan Wright saw them move 4-0 ahead, but Lee Cornock’s walkover in the next gave Roath a consolation frame.
Mackintosh Snooker are in second after a 3-2 away win to Rumney British Legion, and they had to come from behind after Ben Harding beat Jerry Connors in the opener, before Carlos Schiazza levelled the match after defeating Frank Deriu. Eassa Din provided the individual highlight of the week after breaks of 40 and 37 saw him defeat Alex Ellis and give his side a 2-1 lead. Mike Nessbert sealed the win after he beat Tony Parkin, but Paul Chichester’s victory against Nathan Dunne in the final frame moved him into joint-top of the player rankings.
Taff’s Well Warriors are behind the Mack sides in third as they pushed Premier League leaders Fairwater Cons all the way in a closely-fought 3-2 home defeat. Some excellent potting from Mike Watts and Twm Sion Jones saw the opening frame go to the colours, with a missed brown from Watts being capitalised on by Jones to make it 1-0. A very strong start from Luke Sheppard in the next looked like inflicting the first defeat of the season on Jason Hewett, but last year’s Player of the Year hit back with a 30 break coupled with some very good long potting to take the frame on the pink. Dan Bridle then sealed the win for Fairwater with a comfortable win over Dave Richards, but some solid break-building and matchplay from Chris Richards pulled one back after beating Shaun O’Connell. The final frame saw an eventful exchange on the blue between Simon Takata and Steve Flanagan with Takata potting it followed by the pink to make it 3-2.
Taff’s Well have moved into second place in the Premier League following a 4-1 win away to Canton Libs, with Rhys Carpenter winning a scrappy first frame against Luke Haines. Jimmy Llewellyn doubled their lead after winning an entertaining frame on the pink against James Wigmore, before Glyn Jones produced a strong comeback versus Declan O’Callaghan to make it 3-0. Kevin Brown looked set to remain ahead of the pack at the top of the individual rankings as he opened up a lead on Ronnie Allen heading into the colours, but the CDSA stalwart kept his nerve to clear brown to black to reduce the deficit, and Rob Hayes rounded off a good night’s work for his side with a win over Tony Chick on the colours.
Caerphilly A have joined Mackintosh Snooker as the only side with a 100% record after two rounds of the League Cup after they won 3-2 against County Cons, but they lost the opening singles frame as a 37 break from Ryan Bowgen saw him defeat Rob McKenna. Nural Khan made it 1-1 after he beat Dave Earls, before Darren Gill restored County’s lead following his win over Khurram Khan, but Caerphilly edged the match after Ben Griffiths and Steffan Davies won the doubles frame against Dan Wardle and Suhayb Din.
