Caerphilly A took advantage of their game in hand over title rivals Fairwater Cons this week as they beat Taff’s Well Warriors 4-1 to move level at the top of the Premier League, albeit ahead on games won. Rob McKenna won a high-scoring opening frame on the black against Simon Takata, before Ian Denton comfortably beat Chris Johnson to make it 2-0. Jason Veal became the first player to beat Nural Khan in the league this season, as he pulled one back with a tense win on the black, but Khurram Khan sealed the victory after defeating Dave Richards and Ben Griffiths finished things off with a win over Mike Watts to remain top of the individual rankings.
Taff’s Well are the only side that can catch the top two as they remain in third following a 3-2 away win to Macky Misfits, but had to come from behind after Jacob Boyle beat Jimmy Llewellyn on the colours. Tom Cross maintained his 100% record to defeat Bill Bainton, and Glyn Jones edged Taff’s Well ahead after beating Steve Wellbeloved. Kevin Brown kept his place near the top of the individual rankings after his victory over Graeme Prance, but Satinder Singh reduced the deficit after his defeat of Rob Hayes in the final frame.
Mackintosh Snooker remain one point ahead of the Misfits in Division One after their 3-2 loss at Canton Libs, with Luke Haines beating Eassa Din in the opener, before Carlos Schiazza levelled the match with a win over Declan O’Callaghan. James Wigmore restored his side’s lead as he defeated Billy Connors and Ronnie Allen clinched the win for Canton after his win over Mike Nessbert, but Nathan Dunne won the final frame against Tony Chick to keep the Mack at the top.
County Cons maintained their excellent form with a fourth win in five matches after they won 3-2 at Roath Cons. However, Andrew Champion’s win against Dan Wardle put Roath ahead, but Ryan Bowgen made it 1-1 after beating Phil Storer. Alan Wright restored Roath’s lead with a black ball win against Darren Gill, before Dave Earls restored parity with victory over Rob Reid and Dave Standage sealed the win after defeating Lee Cornock thanks to a 34 break.
The League Cup is proving to be an entertaining addition to the calendar and it was no different this week as Rumney British Legion won 3-2 against Fairwater Cons. However, the match started with a doubles frame that was held over from their previous meeting that was cut short because of a power cut which Steve Flanagan and Jason Hewett won against Paul Chichester and Andy McGill. This week’s match started with Alex Ellis beating Dan Bridle, before Terry Garland’s win against Paul Chichester and Luke Pitman’s defeat of Andy McGill put Fairwater 2-1 ahead. As with most league cup matches this season, the result hinged on the doubles frame and Rumney won it thanks to Tony Parkin and Paul Chichester’s win against Luke Haines and Twm Sion Jones.
