Fairwater Edge Ahead in Title Race

Breaks

Jimmy Llewellyn 39 (Taff’s Well)
Tony Storer 39 (Roath Cons)
Allan Morgan 36 (Caerphilly A)

The race for the 2024-25 Premier League is becoming tenser by the week as Fairwater Cons edged a point ahead of their rivals Caerphilly A following a 4-1 win at home to Macky Misfits. However, they found themselves 1-0 down after Jason Hewett lost to Jacob Boyle, but Dan Bridle’s win over Steve Wellbeloved drew them level. Wins for Steve Flanagan against Bill Bainton and Terry Garland over Graeme Prance put them 3-1 in front, before Twm Sion Jones’s defeat of Renato Ridolini sealed a good night in their pursuit of the title they last won in 2022.

Caerphilly A slip one point behind despite winning 3-2 against Canton Libs and they had to come from behind after Luke Haines beat Rob McKenna, but a 36 break from Allan Morgan against James Wigmore saw them level the match. A 40 break from Nural Khan put them ahead after his win over Dave Whitcombe, but Ronnie Allen restored parity after defeating Steffan Davies, before the decider was won by Ben Griffiths against Tony Chick to keep the title race very close with six matches remaining.

Taff’s Well remain in contention in third place after they beat Roath Cons 4-1 and with home games against the top two still to come, they may fancy their chances of continuing to close the gap before the end of the season. Rhys Carpenter won the opening frame against Andrew Champion, before Jimmy Llewellyn doubled their lead with some fluent potting in making a 39 break against Phil Storer. Tony Storer then pulled one back for Roath with another 39 break as he defeated Glyn Jones but a 31 break from captain Kevin Brown saw Taff’s Well move 3-1 ahead, before Rob Hayes won a close final frame against Lee Cornock.

Rumney British Legion won 3-2 against Taff’s Well Warriors with Paul Chichester winning the opener against Andy Holman to maintain his place near the top of the individual rankings, before Dave Richards made it 1-1 with victory over Alex Ellis. Ben Harding’s defeat of Jason Veal put them back ahead, before Chris Johnson again drew his side level after beating Tony Parkin, but Andy McGill’s win over Geoff Sheppard gave Rumney the win.

Mackintosh Snooker moved back to the top of the League Cup table after a 4-1 against County Cons almost guarantees them a semi-final spot with one game remaining. Eassa Din won the first frame against Dan Wardle, but Darren Gill won the second singles frame versus Carlos Schiazza. Mike Nessbert’s win over Suhayb Din saw the Mack go back ahead and a doubles win for Billy Connors and Nathan Dunne against Dave Earls and Mike Rathkey gave them an excellent victory to move two points clear of second place.
