The race for the CDSA Premier League 2024-25 is going all the way as Fairwater Cons and Caerphilly A find themselves level on points with two games to go, including a potential title decider next week.

Fairwater managed to gain a point on their rivals with a 4-1 win at home to Mackintosh Snooker, with Twm Sion Jones registering breaks of 50 and 42 to win the opening frame against Carlos Schiazza. Jason Hewett then doubled their lead with victory over Craig Bolton and a 37 break from Terry Garland was enough to put them 3-0 up after beating Mike Nessbert. However, Nathan Dunne pulled one back after defeating Dan Bridle, but Luke Pitman completed the win after beating Eassa Din.

Caerphilly A remain top on games won though after they maintained their unbeaten league record with a hard-fought 3-2 win in one of the games of the season at Taff’s Well. Allan Morgan won the opening frame against Jimmy Llewellyn thanks to a superb 71 break and was unfortunate to miss the pink, with the colours available for the century clearance. A 37 break from Rhys Carpenter helped him to defeat Rob McKenna and level the match, before Steffan Davies’s win over Glyn Jones on the colours restored Caerphilly’s advantage. The next frame saw two of the contenders for the individual rankings title meet as Kevin Brown faced Ben Griffiths, with a tense opening seeing both players looking to establish the upper hand in a long safety exchange. As the frame opened up, Brown managed to seize his opportunity with a very well-constructed 48 break, which proved to be decisive to send the match to a decider and make him firm favourite for the Player of the Year title. However, Nural Khan showed his class against Rob Hayes as immaculate positional play gave him the opportunity for the first league century of the season, but the last red failed to drop leaving him on a break of 68 to win the match for Caerphilly.

In Division One, Macky Misfits had the chance to capitalise on Mackintosh’s loss at Fairwater but they lost 3-2 to Canton Libs to mean that Mackintosh have one hand on the trophy with one game remaining. Luke Haines won the opening frame for Canton against Steve Wellbeloved, before James Wigmore made it 2-0 with victory over Satinder Singh and Ronnie Allen sealed the match after he defeated Deepak Singh. Jacob Boyle pulled one back for the Misfits as he beat Tony Chick and a walkover for Renato Ridolini gave his side a consolation frame.

County Cons’ 4-1 win over Rumney British Legion means they are the only team who can pip Mackintosh for the title as Ryan Bowgen won the first frame versus Ben Harding. Ethan Chichester levelled the match after beating Darren Gill, before Dave Earls restored the lead for County against Glyn Hayes. A black-ball win for Dave Standage against Andy McGill made it 3-1 and Suhayb Din finished the match with a win over Tony Parkin.

Taff’s Well Warriors registered a welcome win as they beat Roath Cons 4-1, with Dave Richards and Jason Veal winning the first two frames against Alan Wright and Phil Storer respectively. Chris Johnson made it 3-0 after beating Tony Storer, before Andy Holman’s win on the black against Rob Reid made it 4-0, but Lee Cornock won a consolation frame for Roath after he defeated Simon Takata.
