Cardiff Handicap Singles Final
Nick Davies 0 v 4 Allan Morgan
Breaks
Allan Morgan 57, 49
Allan Morgan is the 2024-25 Cardiff Handicap Singles champion after a decisive 4-0 victory over Nick Davies at Taff’s Well Ex-Serviceman’s Club gave him his second title after first winning it in 2011.
The opening frame was a close one throughout as Davies had chances to win it, but a clearance to the pink gave Morgan the early lead and it was a similar story in the next frame as some fluent potting allowed him to clear the colours and establish a 2-0 lead.
Morgan is one of the stars of the CDSA and he had a challenging run to the final, beating the 2019 Cardiff Open winner Rhys Carpenter 2-0in the first round, before repeating that scoreline to defeat Fairwater Cons’ captain Steve Flanagan in the quarter-finals. Taff’s Well’s Rob Hayes won the only frame against him in the semi-final as it finished 2-1 and he showed why he is one of the stars of the CDSA in the third frame with a tremendous 49 break, before following this up with a 57 which featured superb cueball control and positional play to leave him one frame from victory.
Davies had won all three of his matches 2-1 to get to the final with wins over Luke Sheppard, Dave Earls and Ben Harding and he started the next frame well, but some unfortunate run of the balls made it difficult for him to build on his handicap start. Morgan wasn’t as fluent in this frame but was able to do enough to clinch the match towards the end of the frame and take the title of Cardiff Handicap Singles champion.
