Fairwater Cons continue their defence of the Premier League title after they beat Macky Misfits 4-1, with Twm Sion Jones producing one of the individual performances of recent years with breaks of 48 and a 65 clearance to beat Satinder Singh. Dan Bridle’s win over William Eades made it 2-0 before Jason Hewett showed why he is one of the CDSA’s most decorated players with a 70 break against Bill Bainton. The next frame was much closer with Terry Garland winning a very close contest against Richard Duggan, but Jacob Boyle maintained his 100% start to the season as he comfortably beat Steve Flanagan to win a consolation frame for the Misfits.
However, they remain three points behind Caerphilly A at the top of the table as they matched that result with a 4-1 home win against Roath Cons. Owen Fear won the first frame against Andrew Champion, before a 42 break from Steffan Davies saw him defeat Chris Harding and Allan Jones sealed the win after beating Rob Reid. Ian Denton’s win over Alan Wright made it 4-0, but Lee Cornock won the final frame against Ben Griffiths to give his side a consolation point.
Mackintosh Snooker are within touching distance of the top two as their impressive start to the season continued with a 3-2 win versus Canton Libs. Eassa Din won the opener against Rory Wigmore before Carlo Schiazza doubled the Mack’s lead with a win over Luke Haines. Canton stayed in the match thanks to Ronnie Allen’s close win against Billy Connors and a fluent display from James Wigmore saw him level the match versus Mike Nessbert with breaks of 32 and 29, but a 32 break from Nathan Dunne saw him comfortably defeat Tony Chick in the decider.
Rumney British Legion produced the comeback of the week as they overturned a 2-0 deficit to win a closely-fought match at Taff’s Well, with Rhys Carpenter and Tom Cross winning the opening two frames for the hosts against Paul Chichester and Ben Harding respectively. The third frame proved crucial as Ethan Chichester found himself 30 points behind early on in his frame against Jimmy Llewellyn, but solid matchplay and very good long potting saw him clinch the frame on the black. Excellent potting from Andy McGill saw him pull away from Glyn Jones, who hit back later in the frame but it wasn’t enough and McGill sealed it on the colours, before a long and tense deciding frame saw some superb safety play and pressure potting from Albert Columbo to defeat Kevin Brown and give Rumney an excellent victory.
Just behind the Mack in fourth place are Canton Warriors as they moved up the table following an excellent 5-0 win at County Cons, with Brian Rees beating Darren Gill on the pink after he’d started the frame strongly with a 37 break. A solid performance from Dave Richards saw Canton increase their lead after he defeated Suhayb Din, before a very good frame saw Chris Richards seal the win with a 27 break contributing to his victory over John Hicks. An amazing display of snooker-laying by both Andy Holman and Dave Earls meant an entertaining fourth frame went to the colours with Holman keeping his cool to seal it, and Jason Veal finished an excellent night for the Warriors with a display of consistent potting to complete the whitewash.
