Luke Haines 37 (Canton Libs)

Caerphilly A continued their excellent form as they romped to a 5-0 win over Rumney British Legion to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League and establish themselves as firm favourites for the title, as we approach the halfway stage of the league campaign. Last year’s runners-up are looking to go one step further this season and Nural Khan got them off to the perfect start as he beat Paul Chichester, before Steffan Davies defeated Ben Harding to maintain his 100% record and move to the top of the individual rankings. Wins for Allan Jones and Ian Denton against Glyn Hayes and Andy McGill respectively made it 4-0 before captain Ben Griffiths completed the whitewash with a comfortable win over Frank Deriu.

Fairwater Cons remain in second place but they lost ground on the leaders as they won 3-2 against County Cons, but had to come from behind as an impressive performance from Ryan Bowgen saw him defeat Dan Bridle in the opener. Comfortable wins for Jason Hewett against Mike Rathkey and Terry Garland versus Dave Standage saw Fairwater take the lead, but Dave Earls beat Shaun O’Connell on the black to take the match to a decider. Martyn Evans started the final frame strongly for County to build a 30-point lead but Luke Pitman fought his way back to take it to the colours. With both players defending 100% records, a tense finish ensued but Pitman held his nerve to win it on the pink and give Fairwater a vital victory.

Mackintosh Snooker consolidated their third place position in the table as they won 3-2 at Taff’s Well, with Eassa Din continuing his fine individual form to defeat Jimmy Llewellyn on the colours. Fluent potting from Rhys Carpenter saw him beat Carlo Schiazza to make it 1-1, but Billy Connors restored the Mack’s lead after his win over Justin Jones. Mike Nessbert won a close fourth frame against Glyn Jones to give his side the win, before Kevin Brown’s victory over Nathan Dunne pulled one back for Taff’s Well.

Roath Cons made it two wins in three as they beat Canton Libs 3-2, but found themselves 1-0 down as a 37 break from Luke Haines saw him win the opening frame against Andrew Champion. Tony Storer made it 1-1 after defeating James Wigmore and Lee Cornock put Roath ahead after his win over Tony Chick. With Rob Reid handed a bye in the final frame, Kieran Madden managed to reduce the deficit for Canton as he made his first appearance of the season to defeat Chris Harding, and keep Canton in contention for a Premier League place when the league splits after the next round of fixtures.

Macky Misfits moved up to sixth as they won 3-2 at home to Canton Warriors, with Brian Rees ending Jacob Boyle’s unbeaten start to the season in the opening frame. William Eades levelled the match after a close win over Dave Richards, before Chris Johnson beat Richard Duggan in a closely-fought frame to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead. Satinder Singh defeated Andy Holman to take an entertaining match to a decider, which was won by the Misfits as Bill Bainton won on the colours against Simon Takata.
