Breaks
Jason Hewett 39 (Fairwater Cons)
Twm Sion Jones 39 (Fairwater Cons)
The title race for the 2025-26 CDSA Premier League looks like it may go down to the final day decider as Fairwater Cons reduced Caerphilly A’s lead to just two points with four matches remaining, as they both recorded very good away victories.
Caerphilly won the opening two frames against Roath Cons as Steffan Davies kept up his challenge for the individual rankings as he defeated Andrew Champion, and Khurram Khan followed this up as he beat Alan Wright. Wins for Ian Denton versus Rob Reid and Ben Griffiths saw them take a 4-0 lead, but the performance of the night went to Lee Cornock as a 30 clearance capped off a fine win over Nural Khan to claim a consolation frame for his side.
Fairwater Cons’ relentless recent run of form shows no sign of stopping as a 5-0 win away to Macky Misfits made it 24/25 frames in the last five league matches as they continue their pursuit of their title rivals, and breaks of 39 and 33 from Twm Sion Jones against Jacob Boyle gave them the perfect start. Jason Hewett made it 2-0 as he defeated Satinder Singh thanks to a 39 break, before Terry Garland made it 12/12 as he maintained his lead at the top of the rankings in a very competitive race for the Player of the Year title. Steve Flanagan made it 4-0 after his win over Bill Bainton and Shaun O’Connell completed the whitewash as he beat Richard Duggan.
County Cons registered back-to-back league wins to draw level with title rivals Macky Misfits in Division One, as they won 3-2 at home to Canton Warriors. A close opening frame went to the colours as Ryan Bowgen potted the pink and black to beat Simon Takata, before a 33 break from Chris Johnson gave him an early lead over John Hicks, although a few fouls and good potting from Hicks took the frame to the colours, but Johnson finished things off with the brown, blue and pink to level the match. The third frame proved pivotal as excellent tactical play from Suhayb Din saw him defeat Jason Veal to restore County’s lead, but Andy Holman made it 2-2 as solid potting saw him beat Dave Earls, but Dave Standage comfortably won the decider for County against Dave Richards.
Mackintosh Snooker continued to secure third place in the Premier League as they won 3-2 at Canton Libs, but had to come from behind as a 31 break from James Wigmore saw him win the opener against Billy Connors. Carlo Schiazza beat Ronnie Allen on the colours to make it 1-1, but a 30 break from Declan O’Callaghan was enough to win a high-scoring frame for Canton versus Eassa Din. Mike Nessbert levelled the score for the second time as he comfortably beat Tony Chick, but a walkover win for Nathan Dunne against Ed Topham gave the Mack the victory.
Taff’s Well continued their fine run of form as they made it four league wins in a row as they beat Rumney British Legion 3-2, with Rhys Carpenter defeating Ben Harding in the opening frame. Paul Chichester started the next frame strongly against Justin Jones with a 28 break, but solid matchplay and fluent potting from Jones saw him build a healthy lead heading into the colours. However, a tremendous pink with the rest to cannon the black from Chichester saw him drop it in the corner pocket to seal the win and level the match at 1-1. Some very good potting from Frank Deriu gave him an early lead in the next against Glyn Jones, but the frame was settled on the colours by Jones to restore Taff’s Well’s advantage, but it was short-lived as Andy McGill beat Jimmy Llewellyn on the blue. The decider between Kevin Brown and Albert Columbo was a closely-fought one, but Brown managed to seal the victory on the colours to maintain his side’s unbeaten run.
