Hewett Leads Fairwater Surge

Breaks

Jason Hewett 70 (Fairwater Cons)
Khurram Khan 55 (Caerphilly A)
Jimmy Llewellyn 44 (Taff’s Well)

The destiny of the 2025-26 CDSA Premier League crown looks set to go to the final match, as one of the most extraordinary title races of recent years continues to enthrall and entertain.

Fairwater Cons are just a single point behind leaders Caerphilly A, after a remarkable run of form has seen them win 34/35 frames in their last seven league matches to close a gap which at one point had been nine points. A pressure clearance to the pink from Twm Sion Jones against Eassa Din gave them the perfect start in their match at home to Mackintosh Snooker, before Jason Hewett’s red-hot form continued with a 70 break against Billy Connors, although a missed green denied him the chance of a 95 clearance. Luke Pitman made it 3-0 as he comfortably beat Nathan Dunne, before a very tight contest saw Steve Flanagan sink the pink to look like he’d beaten Carlo Schiazza but an in-off took the frame to the black. Both players had chances before Flanagan kept his nerve for a crucial point, before the longest frame of the night saw Terry Garland clear to the pink to defeat Mike Nessbert and complete an excellent whitewash for the champions.

Caerphilly A have been top of the Premier League since the opening week and they notched up another win against Canton Libs, but they had to come from behind as Luke Haines beat Rob McKenna in the opener, before Steffan Davies levelled the match after defeating Ronnie Allen to maintain his excellent form to stay in second position in the individual rankings. A 55 break from Khurram Khan moved Caerphilly A 2-1 ahead after his win over James Wigmore, and victories for Ben Griffiths against Tony Chick and Nural Khan versus Rory Wigmore sealed an impressive 4-1 win to keep them just ahead at the top.

The race for the Division One Title saw Macky Misfits close the gap on the leaders County Cons to just two points despite losing 3-2 at home to Taff’s Well. Jacob Boyle maintained his place near the top of the individual rankings as he defeated Tom Cross in the first frame, before a fluent 44 break from Jimmy Llewellyn saw him make it 1-1 with victory over William Eades. A solid potting display from Glyn Jones saw him beat Bill Bainton to give Taff’s Well the lead and captain Kevin Brown sealed the victory following his win over Richard Duggan, but a walkover frame for Steve Wellbeloved earned a deserved consolation for the Misfits.

County Cons missed the chance to extend their lead as they lost 4-1 at Rumney British Legion, with Paul Chichester’s defeat of Darren Gill in the opening frame followed by Ben Harding’s win against Nick Bevan to give the home side a 2-0 lead. Ethan Chichester beat Dave Standage to make it 3-0, before Dave Earls pulled one back for the Cons versus Frank Deriu but the result was sealed for Rumney by Glyn Hayes as he defeated Suhayb Din.

Canton Warriors got back to winning ways this week as they beat Roath Cons 3-2, but they had to come back from 2-0 down as wins for Andrew Champion and Alan Wright against Simon Takata and Chris Johnson respectively gave Roath the lead. Jason Veal’s win against Joe Browse reduced the deficit, before Andy McGill’s win over Tony Storer levelled the match and Mike Watts sealed a great comeback after beating Lee Cornock in the decider.
