The 2022-23 CDSA season fittingly ended with all the matches this week finishing 3-2 to round off one of the most closely-fought seasons in recent memory, and saw Fairwater Cons Mack complete their title-winning campaign.

The newly-crowned champions won 3-2 at Rumney British Legion to finish on 92 points, ten points ahead of their rivals and also saw a 67 break from Alan Hurley beat Glyn Hayes to finish top of the individual rankings. Jason Hewett then followed up with a 60 break to beat Andy Magill, but Albert Columbo reduced the deficit after defeating Khurram Khan. Brian Rees won a high-scoring frame against Tony Parkin to seal the win, but Paul Chichester won a consolation frame against captain Ronnie Allen.

Fairwater Cons’ league campaign finished with a 3-2 defeat at home to RBL Warriors, but Steve Flanagan’s side take the Premier League runners-up spot after another season in which they performed to a very high standard each week. However, they lost the opener as Nural Khan won against Twm Sion Jones before Terry Garland made it 1-1 with victory over Dave Richards. Jason Veal restored the Warriors’ lead after he beat captain Flanagan and Chris Johnson sealed the win after defeating Shaun O’Connell, before Ben Griffiths won the final frame against Mike Watts.

Beech Tree Hotel completed an excellent first season with a third-place finish after they won 3-2 at Canton Libs, with Dan Bridle beating Declan O’Callaghan to put them 1-0 ahead. Dai Berkinshaw doubled their lead after he won against Ed Topham, before James Facey pulled one back with victory over Ciaran Paul. James Wigmore’s win over Mike Pardoe made it 3-1 but Dai Rideout beat Luke Haines to win a consolation frame, whilst Mackintosh Snooker beat Savoy 3-2 to finish their seasons.

Cathays Cons’ excellent recent form ended with a 3-2 home defeat to Taff’s Well who must be wishing they had started the season as they’ve ended it with six wins in seven matches. Ian Purnell has strengthened Kevin Brown’s side and he won the opening frame against Dave Earls on the black, before Rhys Carpenter made it 2-0 with victory over Martyn Evans. Darren Gill pulled one back with a black-ball win over Jimmy Llewellyn before a superb 57 break from Jason Summerhayes levelled the match against Glyn Jones, but captain Brown finished the match off with a win over Dave Standage to seal the victory.
