Caerphilly A have opened up a six point lead at the top of the Premier League after am impressive 5-0 win away at Canton Warriors, with Allan Morgan getting them off to the perfect start with a 51 break to beat Jason Summerhayes in the opening frame. Steffan Davies maintained his 100% start to the season to move to the top of the individual rankings after defeating Simon Takata and the win was sealed with Nural Khan’s win over Dave Richards. Ben Griffiths’ victory against Chris Johnson made it 4-0 before Khurram Khan beat Brian Rees in the final frame to complete the whitewash.

Mackintosh Snooker are their closest challengers in second after winning 3-2 at Rumney British Legion to register their fourth league win in a row. Eassa Din won a close opening frame on the colours against Albert Columbo before Carlo Schiazza doubled their lead with a comfortable victory over Frank Deriu. The next was a pivotal frame with Billy Connors winning on a respotted black against Ethan Chichester to make it 3-0 to the Mack, but Rumney hit back to win the final two frames with Ben Harding beating Mike Nessbert and Andy McGill’s defeat of Nathan Dunne.

However, the match of the week took place at Fairwater Cons, as the champions lost 3-2 at home to Taff’s Well with almost every frame going to the pink or black. Former Cardiff Open champion Rhys Carpenter won the opener for the visitors against Twm Sion Jones, but Dan Bridle levelled the match with a close win on the pink versus Glyn Jones. Jimmy Llewellyn won the next against Shaun O’Connell after potting blue, pink and black to edge a tight frame, but Fairwater again restored parity following Terry Garland’s defeat of Justin Jones. It was fitting that such a close match was to be decided on the final balls as Rob Hayes’ long pink followed by the black against Jason Hewett sealed the win for Taff’s Well.

The performance of the week came at the Macky Misfits as Roath Cons registered their first league win of the season with a fine 4-1 win, but they had to come from behind after William Eades’ win over Andrew Champion. A 35 break from Tony Storer saw him defeat Richard Duggan to level the match, before Rob Reid won a close frame on the colours against Bill Bainton to give Roath the lead. Alan Wright sealed the match with another tight finish versus Steve Wellbeloved and Lee Cornock finished off a great night’s work for his side with after defeating Nadeen Tariq.

Canton Libs moved up into fourth place after they won a closely-fought contest 3-2 at home to County Cons, but they were 1-0 behind after Dave Earls’ win over Ed Topham in the opening frame. However, wins for Rory Wigmore against Nick Bevan and James Wigmore versus Mike Rathkey saw Canton take the lead, before Ronnie Allen won the match after beating Dave Standage but Martyn Evans pulled one back for County after defeating Tony Chick.
