Champions Fairwater Cons have closed the gap at the top of the Premier League after winning 3-2 at league leaders Caerphilly A, in a pulsating match full of twists and turns. Dan Bridle’s win over Ian Denton in the opening frame gave them the lead, before an impressive 47 break from Terry Garland saw him defeat Nural Khan and make it 2-0. The third frame was the closest of the night as two former Cardiff Open winners, Khurram Khan and Jason Hewett, faced off in a crucial encounter as both sides knew the importance of every point, but Khan managed to edge it on the colours to pull one back for Caerphilly. However, Fairwater made sure of the win as in-form Twm Sion Jones beat Steffan Davies thanks to a very good 59 break, but Ben Griffiths won the final frame to reduce the deficit and limit the damage for his side, with their lead over their rivals now at seven points.
Mackintosh Snooker remain in third place after a 3-2 derby win against Macky Misfits, with Jerry Connors winning the opener versus Satinder Singh which featured a 45 break. William Eades levelled the match for the Misfits as he defeated Carlo Schiazza, and they moved 2-1 ahead after a 37 clearance from Jacob Boyle against Billy Connors. Michael Nessbert’s win over Richard Duggan in the next frame took the match to a decider, with Nathan Dunne completing the comeback for the Mack after beating Steve Wellbeloved to continue their excellent league form.
With the league splitting into two divisions after this round of matches, Taff’s Well sealed their place in the Premier League with a 3-2 win at County Cons, but had to come from behind as some fluent potting from John Hicks saw him beat Justin Jones on the colours. Tom Cross made it 1-1 after defeating Dave Standage before Jimmy Llewellyn gave Taff’s Well the lead following his victory over Suhayb Din. The performance of the night came in the next frame as Dave Earls overcame an early deficit against Kevin Brown with a tremendous display of potting and break-building to take the match to a decider, but solid potting from Rob Hayes saw beat Martyn Evans to give Taff’s Well the victory.
Rumney British Legion got back to winning ways as they won 3-2 at Roath Cons, with Ben Harding winning the first frame against Chris Harding. Tony Storer won a high-scoring frame versus Paul Chichester to level the match, before Ethan Chichester restored Rumney’s lead with a win over Alan Wright. However, Rob Reid won a very close frame against Andy McGill on the black to take the match to yet another decider, with Frank Deriu potting the black to beat Andrew Champion and give Rumney the win.
