Advantage Wellington Thursday as champions suffer shock defeat

It’s very much advantage Wellington Thursday in the title race for the Thursday League as they picked up a very useful 3-2 win over a tough Senghenydd side who beat them in the KO cup earlier in the season with breaks of 36 and 32 from Huw Carpenter and Rupert Taylor respectively. Wellington Thursday’s main title rivals Canton Libs A however fared much worse, ending up on the wrong side of a 3-2 against Trec C to record probably the shock result of the season. This now means that Canton Libs A have a slender 2pts lead but having played a game more, must realise that the match against their rivals is now a must win. SWS recorded a solid 4 – 1 win over Gower with breaks of 50 and 53 from Ed Topham and Simon Trotman to stay in a distant 3rd place. Roath Labour are 4th after beating Cathays Cons 4-1 thanks to a 47 break from Gary Bennett. Taffs Well are in 5th after losing 3-2 to the always improving Trec B. Elsewhere there were wins for Rumney BL who beat Savoy in a busy night down in Barry. First of all Rumney BL won the league match 4 – 1, Ryan Rowlands made a 40 break for Savoy, then they played their KO cup match afterwards, ending up in a 3 – 1 win for the away side. Finally No Balls beat Canton Libs B in a decider 3-2.
