Apart from Fairwater, it was a 4-1 result for all teams in the Tuesday League this week. County might have thought they had put themselves back in the title race with a resounding win over Mackintosh, but the champions bettered it and moved two points clear at the top. Meanwhile Ryan Rowlands made the best break of the season to date with a 74 against University.
Savoy’s home form is always good, and they put four past Trecenydd to move into third, while it was described as ‘one of those nights’ for Penarth Legion, who took the beating that Rileys have been threatening to give out for a few weeks now. Once the first frame turned on the black, Rileys were away and heading for their first win of the season.
Uni lost to Penarth Road, who, like Rileys, are growing in confidence every week and looking likely to take a number of sclaps this year. The middle and top of the table seem a little separated already, with two teams emerging as possible contenders, but a host of other sides queuing up to make the jump to join them.
County’s new signing Alan Morgan got off to a winning start, but Trec and Fairwater await them in the next couple of weeks, so there may be room for other sides to close the gap on the leaders if points are evenly shared in that match in a fortnight.
