Taff’s Well B have progressed through to the Malcolm Keenor Trophy Final after a 3-2 win at Mackintosh gave them a 6-4 aggregate win.
Trailing 3-2 from the first leg, Mackintosh made a strong start by winning the first two frames to take a 4-3 lead after Alan Hurley and Khurram Khan beat Rob Hayes and Rhys Carpenter respectively. The pivotal moment of the whole tie came in the next frame where James Llewellyn overcame Jason Hewitt on the pink in a tense frame that got Taff’s Well back into the match. Tom Cross then put his side ahead with a victory over Ronnie Allen and then Kevin Brown ensured there would be no play-off after he beat Simon Parker to take Taff’s Well through to the final.
Rumney British Legion produced an excellent performance to beat reigning Plate champions Mackies Lost Boys 4-1 after trailing 3-2 from the first leg to clinch a place in the final 6-4 on aggregate. Rumney won the opening two frames before a 33 break from Jason Veal levelled the match at 4-4. An unusual scenario in the next resulted in a re-rack after Lost Boys’ Ken Linsey found himself stuck in the pack after potting a red. With no way out of the pack and all players agreeing an attempt at fouling by playing a shot in a direct line with a colour wasn’t an option, the frame restarted with Jason Summehayes putting Rumney ahead. Their place in the final was sealed in the last when Glyn Hayes overcame Chris Johnson to complete the comeback and a 6-4 win.
They’ll be joined by Senghenydd after Tony Palkowski’s side finished the job quickly after their 4-1 win in the first leg by winning the two frames they needed to seal a comprehensive 6-1 victory.
