Fairwater Cons are back on top of the Premier League after a 4-1 win away to RBL Warriors saw them pull three points clear of Mackintosh Sports after their heavy defeat at Trecenydd Snooker by the same scoreline.

Twm Sion Jones got the champions off to a solid start with a win over Paul Palfrey, before Ben Griffiths extended his lead at the top of the individual rankings with a win over Chris Johnson. The frame of the week saw Steffan Davies fight back from 59-0 down against Mike Watts to win a thriller 76-59 to put his side 3-0 ahead. Terry Garland then maintained his good form with victory over Nick Davis to make it 4-0, before Jason Veal beat Shaun O’Connell to win a consolation frame for the Warriors.

Mackintosh’s night got off to a shock start after Jason Hewett’s defeat by Dan Bridle was followed up by Tony Williams’ win on the black against Alan Hurley. Mike Pardoe then sealed the victory with a win on the colours over Brian Rees, before Chris Garwood’s close win over Clive Marsh saw Trecenydd race into a 4-0 lead. Khurram Khan then prevented the whitewash with a win over Dai Rideout, but the damage had been done and Trecenydd registered a deserved win.

Cathays Cons move into 4th place in the Premier League after a 4-1 win over inconsistent Taff’s Well, but they had to come from behind after Nick Jones beat Mike Rathkey in the opening frame. Dave Earls produced a solid display to level things up with a win over Tom Cross and Dave Standage’s defeat of Glyn Jones saw them take a 2-1 lead. The result was decided by two very close frames to finish the match, with Johnny Davies beating Kevin Brown on a respotted black, before a black-ball win for Darren Gill over Rob Hayes gave Cathays the 4-1 win.

With the league now split into two divisions, there looks like being a close title race in Division One after Mackintosh Sports won the battle at the top with a 3-2 victory over Cuesaders Z, whilst Savoy move into joint second with a 4-1 win at home to winless Rumney British Legion, although Justin Behnan got his side off to a flyer with a win over Mark Bennett. Savoy hit back though with Ryan Rowlands beating Ben Harding and Jason Summerhayes’ win over Glyn Hayes. Colin Lane then won the captains’ match against Frank Deriu, before Dave Hurn had a walkover in the final frame.
