The contest for the Premier League title looks to be a two-horse race after Taff’s Well won 3-2 at contenders Canton Libs to all but end their hopes of catching champions Fairwater Cons. This season’s most inconsistent side got off to a flyer with an excellent performance from Nick Jones to overcome Ed Topham, before some fluent potting from Tom Cross saw him comfortably beat James Facey to make it 2-0. Jimmy Llewellyn sealed the win thanks to a 40 break, but Canton won the next after Rory Wigmore’s win on the colours against Glyn Jones, before James Wigmore defeated Rob Hayes in a close frame to give the result a more balanced scoreline.

Fairwater Cons extended their lead at the top of the table with a resounding 5-0 win over bottom side Rumney British Legion to put them 9 points clear over Mackintosh Sports, albeit having played a game more. Shaun O’Connell won the opener against Alex Ellis after a strong second-half to the frame, before the league’s most in-form player Twm Sion Jones missed the final black for a 64 clearance in defeating Glyn Hayes to make it 2-0. Terry Garland’s excellent form continued as some good long potting saw him comfortably beat Frank Deriu and a 43 break from Steffan Davies was enough to beat Ben Harding. The whitewash was completed by Ben Griffiths as he won against Andy Magill to set Fairwater up for a likely title decider in a fortnight away to Mackintosh Sports.

Ronnie Allen’s side are still in contention after they won 4-1 at home to Cuesaders Z, but they had to come from behind after Ryan Bowgen beat Clive Marsh in the opening frame. Wins for Jason Hewitt over Paul Chichester and Khurram Khan against Bill Bainton put Mack 2-1 ahead and Ronnie Allen sealed the win with victory over Dave Reynolds, before Brian Rees defeated Mike Kinman to keep their side in the race with four matches remaining.

Cathays Cons moved above Trecenydd Snooker into fourth place after they won 4-1 at RBL Warriors with Mike Rathkey and Dave Standage winning against Nick Davis and Chris Johnson respectively to put them 2-0 ahead. Martyn Evans beat Mike Watts before Simon Takata pulled one back for the Warriors with victory over Dave Earls, but Johnny Davies secured the points after he defeated Syed Moshin Kazmi to give Darren Gill’s side their fifth win in six matches.

The Division One title is almost guaranteed for Mackintosh Snooker after their fine run of form continued with a 5-0 win over second-placed Savoy who are now 16 points behind the leaders. Mike Nessbert’s side have been impressive in the past few weeks and are showing what they’re capable of with their fourth win in a row.
