Mackintosh Sports are in pole position to qualify for the Malcolm Keenor Trophy final after they beat reigning champions Trecenydd Snooker 4-1 to leave Ronnie Allen’s side in a strong position ahead of their final group game next month. Trecenydd made a good start though with Tony Williams beating captain Allen in the opener, before Khurram Khan levelled things up after he defeated Mike Pardoe. Comfortable wins for Jason Hewett over Dai Rideout and Brian Rees against Dan Bridle put them 3-1 up, with Alan Hurley finishing things off for the Mack with victory over Dai Birkenshaw.

Taff’s Well are favourites to join them in the final after their 4-1 win at RBL Warriors, but it is very tight for second place in the table. A high-scoring first frame went the way of Rob Hayes against Syed Moshin Kazmi, before Rhys Carpenter beat Kin Linsey to make it 2-0. Kevin Brown won comfortably in the next against Chris Johnson and Nick Jones’ defeat of Nick Davis made it 4-0, but some good potting on the colours by Simon Takata saw him win a consolation frame against Jimmy Llewellyn.

Cathays Cons have got themselves into contention for a final place after they beat Cuesaders Z 3-2, but Graeme Prance’s side also have the opportunity to finish in the top two in what will be an entertaining final day of group matches to decide the finalists. They had to come from behind though after Rob Richards won against Martyn Evans, but Johnny Davies made it 1-1 with victory over captain Prance. Ryan Bowgen regained the lead for Cuesaders after he beat Darren Gill, but wins for Dave Standage and Mike Rathkey over Bill Bainton and Mike Kinman respectively gave Cathays the crucial win.

Savoy have booked their place in the Plate Final after their 3-2 win over Rumney British Legion, but the race to join them is still alive after Canton Libs beat Fairwater Cons by the same scoreline. Savoy took the lead after Jason Summerhayes beat Alex Ellis, but Tony Parkin made it 1-1 after his win over Dave Hurn. Lee Greening put Savoy ahead in the next after his defeat of Glyn Hayes and Mark Bennett made sure of the win and their spot in the final with victory over Frank Deriu, before Andy Magill won the last for Rumney against Geoff Sheppard.

Tony Chick won the opening frame for Canton against Twm Sion Jones on the brown in a match of close frames, but Steve Flanagan drew Fairwater level after beating James Wigmore on the blue. Shaun O’Connell then put Fairwater ahead with a win on the pink versus Rory Wigmore, but Declan O’Callaghan took the match to a decider after beating Terry Garland on the black. The final frame was a tense encounter with Canton needing to win it and they did so thanks to James Facey’s win over Ben Griffiths on the brown, but Fairwater know a win over Savoy in the final match will guarantee them a place in the final.
