Mackintosh Sports win the Malcolm Keenor Trophy

Malcolm Keenor Trophy Final

Mackintosh Sports 3 v 0 Cuesaders Z

Breaks – Jason Hewett 57

Mackintosh Sports are the 2021-22 Malcolm Keenor Trophy winners for the first time after they defeated Cuesaders Z 3-0 on an entertaining evening at Trecenydd Snooker Club.

A favourable draw for Ronnie Allen’s side saw Jason Hewett line up first but he had to give a 28-point start to Dave Reynolds who was drawn in the opening frame for Cuesaders. After a slow start to the frame with both players missing pots, Hewett showed his class to put Mackintosh 1-0 up as he registered an effortless 57 before missing a red when a big break looked likely.

The next frame was a crucial one as it was played off scratch with Khurram Khan facing Ryan Bowgen knowing a win would put his side in a very strong position. Khan took control of the frame early on and a well-laid snooker saw Bowgen miss four times to give his opponent 19 points in fouls, before Khan extended his lead as the frame progressed to comfortably win to make it 2-0.

Mike Kinman was on next for Cuesaders with a 14-point start over Brian Rees, and with both players missing lots of chances the frame went to the colours but Rees cleared to win the frame and the trophy for Mackintosh.

CDSA Plate Final

Savoy 0 v 3 Fairwater Cons

Fairwater Cons won the CDSA Plate after a 3-0 win against Savoy in the final at Trecenydd Snooker Club, with Shaun O’Connell giving his side a great start after some excellent match-play saw him comfortably beat Cardiff Open finalist Ryan Rowlands, who will be looking to finish the season in style next week when he takes on Jason Hewett in the final.

The next frame was a closer affair as Ben Griffiths took on Lee Greening, but the Player of the Year took more of his chances as he doubled Fairwater’s lead to 2-0. The next was the frame of the match as Terry Garland faced Mark Bennett with the Savoy ex-professional needing to win to keep his side in it, but Garland built an early lead before Bennett went in-off the pink after looking like clearing the table. With ball in hand, Garland decided on the double and he sank it to win the frame and match 3-0 for the Premier League champions.
