Ben Griffiths 41 (Fairwater Cons)

Beech Tree Hotel moved up to fifth in the table with a game in hand on the teams above them after winning 4-1 at Roath Cons this week. Dan Bridle’s side have now won four matches out of five and they maintained their good form after captain Bridle beat Presley Cornock in the opener, before Craig Fletcher made it 2-0 against Kerri Whiting. Mike Pardoe and Ciaran Paul defeated Alan Wright and Andrew Champion respectively to double their lead, before Lee Cornock won a consolation frame for Roath after beating Tony Williams.

The champions Fairwater Cons kept up their relentless form with an impressive 4-1 over Cathays Cons. Twm Sion Jones opened proceedings with a win on the pink against Jason Summerhayes, before Terry Garland beat Dave Earls to make it 2-0. Dave Standage pulled one back after he beat Steve Flanagan on the pink, but Shaun O’Connell sealed the win after a closely-fought victory over Martyn Evans before a 41 break was enough for Ben Griffiths to beat Ryan Bowgen to keep Fairwater top of the Premier League.

Fairwater Cons Mack kept pace with their title rivals after a 4-1 win at RBL Warriors. Brian Rees won the first frame versus Simon Takata, before Jason Hewett won a high-scoring encounter against Chris Johnson to double the Mack’s lead. Alan Hurley beat Dave Richards and Khurram Khan defeated Nick Davis to make it 4-0, but Jason Veal won a close frame on last against Mack captain Ronnie Allen.

Savoy overcame an understrength Taff’s Well side 3-2, but it could have been different after a fluked pink for Mark Bennett followed by a doubled black saw him win the opening frame against Rhys Carpenter. Tom Cross then levelled things up after beating Colin Lane, before Kevin Brown’s win over Dave Hurn put his side ahead 2-1. However, with only four players available, the frame between Geoff Sheppard and Rob Hayes became effectively the decider which the former won to take the match for Savoy 3-2.

Canton Libs missed the chance to close the gap at the top after they lost 3-2 at Mackintosh Snooker. Captain Mike Nessbert won the first frame against James Facey and Carlos Schiazza kept up his good form with a win over Rory Wigmore to double the Mack’s lead, before Luke Haines pulled one back with a win on the black against Nathan Dunne. Declan O’Callaghan maintained his position at the top of the individual rankings with a win over Jerry Connors, but Billy Connors beat James Wigmore in the decider to win the match 3-2.
