Fairwater Cons Mack won the game of the week after they defeated The Cons 3-2 in a very competitive encounter, with the match decided in the final frame. The Mack took a two-frame lead after Jason Hewett kept up his 100% start to the season in beating Ryan Bowgen, and Alan Hurley won against Dan Wardle. However, The Cons hit back after Dave Earls beat Ronnie Allen to remain undefeated and Darren Gill’s comfortable victory over Brian Rees made it 2-2, but Khurram Khan made sure of the victory for his side with a win against Mike Rathkey to keep the Mack at the top of the table.

They are joined at the top of the Premier League by Taff’s Well after their 4-1 win away at Roath Cons. The 2016 champions have underachieved in the past few seasons, but are looking like they could challenge for honours this year. Rhys Carpenter and Ian Purnell are a strong pairing at the top of the order and wins against Clive Marsh and Rob Reid respectively gave them the perfect start. Jimmy Llewellyn made sure of the win after beating Andrew Champion and Kev Brown’s win over Jack Whiting made it 4-0, but Lee Cornock won a consolation frame for Roath, becoming the first player to defeat Rob Hayes this season.

Canton Libs would be a point ahead of Fairwater Cons Mack and Taff’s Well had their 5-0 win against Savoy not been chalked off, and their good form continued with a 4-1 home win over Beech Tree Hotel but Dan Bridle’s win over Declan O’Callaghan gave them work to do. The second frame proved pivotal after Luke Haines’ win on the black against Mike Pardoe and Rory Wigmore followed that up with victory over Ciaran Paul. James Facey secured the win after beating Ieuan Simms and James Wigmore finished the match off for his side after defeating Dai Rideout.

Rumney British Legion registered their first win of the season after their 3-2 defeat of Mackintosh Snooker, but they had to come from behind following Satinder Singh’s win over Paul Chichester. Justin Behnan levelled the match after he beat Craig Bolton, but Billy Connors’ comfortable win over Alex Ellis restored the Mack’s lead. Andy Magill’s dramatic black-ball frame against Mike Nessbert took the match to a decider and Glyn Hayes kept up his impressive start to the season with a win over Nathan Dunne to give his side the points.
