New Season Underway

The start of the new CDSA season was overshadowed by the shock withdrawal of champions Fairwater Cons Mack on the eve of the 2024-25 campaign. Ronnie Allen’s side have had to disband due to a lack of players, meaning some of the side will now be looking for new teams.

This meant there were only four league matches, but last year’s runners-up Fairwater Cons started with a 3-2 win against Taff’s Well Warriors. Twm Sion Jones won the opener against Simon Takata, before Jason Veal made it 1-1 after defeating Dan Bridle. Terry Garland then restored Fairwater’s lead with victory over Chris Johnson, and Steve Flanagan clinched the win after he won against Geoff Sheppard, but Luke Sheppard pulled one back in the final frame after beating Shaun O’Connell.

Taff’s Well made an impressive start after a 4-1 home win over Canton Libs, but had to come from behind after Luke Haines defeated Ian Purnell. Tom Cross levelled the match after comfortably beating Rory Wigmore, before Jimmy Llewellyn came back from 30 points down to beat league debutante David Whitcombe, who impressed in his first frame in the CDSA. The individual performance of the match came in the next frame, as fluent potting and solid break-building from Kevin Brown saw him seal the win for his side, before Rob Hayes won the final frame versus Tony Chick to cap off a very good night for his side.

Rumney British Legion matched that result with an excellent 4-1 win away to Mackintosh Snooker, with Ben Harding winning the opening frame against Billy Connors. Paul Chichester doubled their lead with a win over Carlos Schiazza, before Ethan Chichester made sure of the win with victory over Michael Nessbert. Tony Parkin’s win over Eassa Din made it 4-0, before Nathan Dunne won a consolation frame for Mackintosh after beating Andy McGill.

There was an excellent start for the new side Macky Misfits as they won 3-2 at Roath Cons, with Shootout winner Jacob Boyle taking the opening frame against Phil Storer. Steve Wellbeloved made it 2-0 with a high-scoring win over Alan Wright, before Clive Marsh pulled one back for Roath after defeating Renato Ridolini. Rob Reid then levelled the match with a win over Bill Bainton, but Satinder Singh held his nerve to win the decider against Lee Cornock to register an opening day victory for Graeme Prance’s side.
