Steffan Davies 35 (Caerphilly A)
Roath Cons produced the result of the week as they won 5-0 at County Cons, with Lee Cornock’s 51 break being the highlight of a fantastic team performance. Rob Baker’s 35 break saw them off to a good start in the opening frame against Dan Wardle and Andrew Champion doubled their lead after beating Mike Rathkey. Clive Marsh’s win against Darren Gill sealed the match, before Alan Wright’s defeat of Dave Earls made it 4-0, before Cornock sealed the whitewash against Martyn Evans to round off a great night for his side.
Taff’s Well made it back-to-back 4-1 wins after beating Macky Misfits, with Ian Purnell’s win against Rob Richards and Rhys Carpenter’s victory over Satinder Singh giving them a 2-0 lead. Jimmy Llewellyn sealed the victory after defeating Steve Wellbeloved, before Glyn Jones’ excellent potting gave him the win over Graeme Prance, but Bill Bainton won a tense black-ball consolation frame for Macky against Kevin Brown.
Caerphilly A joined Taff’s Well and Fairwater Cons at the top of the table at this early stage with a 4-1 win against Taff’s Well Warriors. Nurul Khan won the opener against Geoff Shepherd, before Jason Veal levelled the match after defeating Owen Fear. Ian Denton restored their lead with victory over Dave Richards and a 35 break from Steffan Davies was enough to overcome Chris Johnson, with Ben Griffiths’ defeat of Mike Watts rounding things off for his team.
Mackintosh Snooker moved up to fifth in the table after a closely-fought 4-1 win at home to Canton Libs, with all of the frames being decided on the final colours. Nathan Dunne moved to the top of the individual rankings as he maintained his 100% start to the season with victory over Luke Haines, before Carlos Schiazza’s win on the black against Declan O’Callaghan made it 2-0. Dave Whitcombe pulled one back with another black-ball frame against Mike Nessbert, but wins for Eassa Din and Callum Jones versus James Wigmore and Tony Chick respectively gave the Mack the win.
There was an unusual occurrence at Fairwater Cons as a power cut meant the final doubles frame couldn’t be completed, leaving Fairwater 3-0 up after the singles. Dan Bridle won a tremendous opening frame against Ethan Chichester after being almost sixty points down at one stage, and Luke Pitman doubled their lead after beating Paul Chichester. Steve Flanagan’s win over Ben Harding gave his side the victory before the lights went out on the match, which will now be played before the reverse fixture later in the season.
