Fairwater Cons secured an impressive 5-0 victory away to Canton Libs this week to move to the top of the Premier League at this early stage. Last year’s runners-up are looking to take advantage of Fairwater Cons Mack’s withdrawal and regain the title they last won in 2022. The match was very close throughout with each frame being decided on the pink or black, although the opening frame between Luke Haines and Twm Sion Jones took an hour and twenty minutes before Jones managed to get over the line. Dan Bridle made it 2-0 after beating Dave Whitcombe and Terry Garland sealed the win after defeating Rory Wigmore. Luke Pitman made a successful return to the league after a few years away after his win over James Wigmore, and Steve Flanagan completed the whitewash against Tony Chick.
Caerphilly Cons justified their favourites tag with a 4-1 win at Rumney British Legion in their first frame of the season, and one of their star players Allan Morgan started things off with a win in the first frame against Ben Harding. Captain Ben Griffiths made it 2-0 after his win over Glyn Hayes, but Paul Chichester pulled one back with a comfortable win against Dave Hartnell. Ian Denton made it 3-1 after he won on the black against Ethan Chichester, and Allan Jones finished off a good night for Caerphilly after defeating Tony Parkin.
Taff’s Well Warriors were involved in another close match after a 3-2 win against Mackintosh Snooker, with Simon Takata beating Eassa Din in the opening frame. Carlos Schiazza made it 1-1 after his win over Andy Holman, before Chris Johnson’s victory versus Michael Nessbert restored the Warriors’ lead. Dave Richards sealed the win after he beat Callum Jones, before Nathan Dunne defeated Jason Veal to pull a frame back for Mackintosh.
Macky Misfits kept up their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-2 win at home to County Cons, but they had to come from behind after Ryan Bowgen beat Jacob Boyle. Steve Wellbeloved’s win on the black against Dan Wardle levelled the match before Renato Ridolini put them 2-1 ahead with victory over Dave Earls. Graeme Prance made sure of the win after he beat Suhayb Din, but Darren Gill defeated Satinger Singh to earn his a consolation frame.
The first League Cup match of the season was an entertaining one at Roath Cons, as the home side opened up a 2-0 lead over Taff’s Well with Rob Baker beating Rhys Carpenter and Andrew Champion defeating Glyn Jones. Jimmy Llewellyn pulled one back against Phil Storer to make sure the match went to the deciding doubles frame which is worth two points. The captains’ picks saw Clive Marsh and Rob Reid start the frame with a 14-point handicap over Kevin Brown and Jimmy Llewellyn, but excellent potting from Marsh saw him win on the blue and seal a 4-1 win for his side.
