Fairwater Cons have moved to the top of the Premier League after a 5-0 victory at County Cons saw them maintain their 100% start to the season. Twm Sion Jones gave Fairwater the perfect start as he beat Suhayb Din thanks to a 45 break, and Jason Hewett showed why the 2022 champions have added him to their ranks as a 62 break was enough to win his frame against Mike Rathkey. Terry Garland kept up his place at the top of the individual rankings, which he shares with team-mates Jones and Steve Flanagan, as he beat Dan Wardle to maintain his unbeaten start to the season, before Shaun O’Connell’s win over Dave Earls and Flanagan’s victory over Darren Gill completed the whitewash.
Caerphilly A closed the gap on second-placed Taff’s Well as they won 3-2 at Macky Misfits, but they were made to work hard for their win as Cardiff Open champion Khurram Khan edged a close first frame against Satinder Singh. Jacob Boyle quickly levelled the match with a comprehensive win over Owen Fear, before Ian Denton restored his side’s lead as he beat Steve Wellbeloved. A 34 break from Steffan Davies gave him the win in the next versus Renato Ridolini, before Bill Bainton won a close final frame on the colours against Allan Jones.
Canton Libs made it back-to-back victories to move up a couple of places in the table as they defeated Taff’s Well Warriors 3-2, with Declan O’Callaghan continuing his very good start to the season to win the opener against Simon Takata. Andy Holman then levelled the match with a dominant performance against Grant Coombs, before Chris Johnson won a captains’ frame versus James Wigmore on the pink after some excellent long potting from both players. Dave Whitcombe made it 2-2 with a very good performance against Mike Watts, who had looked in control of the early stages but it set up the deciding frame between Dave Richards and Tony Chick. Richards started well to open up a 35-0 lead but some solid potting and excellent safety play by Chick gave him the lead going into the colours and he finished things off to take the match 3-2 for Canton.
Roath Cons also secured their second win of the league campaign as they edged out Mackintosh Snooker 3-2 with Andrew Champion winning the opening frame against Nathan Dunne. Carlos Schiazza’s defeat of Alan Wright levelled the match before Clive Marsh regained the lead for Roath with after beating Billy Connors. Mike Nessbert then drew the match level after his win over Rob Reid, before Lee Cornock won the decider on the black against Callum Jones to give Roath the victory.
In the League Cup, Taff’s Well won a closely-fought contest 3-2 against Rumney British Legion but they had to come from behind after losing the opening two singles matches. Ben Harding beat Jimmy Llewellyn in the first and Ethan Chichester made it 2-0 with a win over Glyn Jones. However, Taff’s Well captain Kevin Brown kept his side in the match with a very good blue-to-black clearance against Tony Parkin before amazingly repeating the feat in the doubles frame to secure victory with his partner Glyn Jones against Chichester and Harding.
