The final of the League Cup will be between Fairwater Cons and Mackintosh Snooker as they both came through their semi-finals against Taff’s Well and Macky Misfits respectively.
Twm Sion Jones started very strongly against Glyn Jones in the opening singles frame to overcome the handicap deficit ahead of the colours, but Jones kept in the frame with some good safety. Several attempts at the brown from both players were missed before Fairwater’s Jones potted it along with the blue to seal victory. Terry Garland also performed strongly versus Jimmy Llewellyn, registering a 32 break to seal the frame before the colours to put Fairwater 2-0 up. Rob Hayes was on next for Taff’s Well against Steve Flanagan knowing only a win would keep his side in the semi-final and a fluent potting display saw him comfortably win the frame to take the match to the doubles frame.
Hayes and Jones paired up for Taff’s Well and had a 7-point advantage over Jason Hewett and Shaun O’Connell, with a tense, nervy start from all players seeing a tight frame ensue. The scores were level with a handful of reds remaining but some good safety from both Hewett and O’Connell saw them gain crucial points in fouls and they pulled ahead on the colours to take the frame and seal a place in the final next week.
There they will face Mackintosh Snooker, who have the opportunity for a cup double after qualifying last week for the Malcolm Keenor Trophy, after they beat Macky Misfits 3-0 with Billy Connors winning a pivotal opening frame against Satinder Singh. Eassa Din doubled their advantage with a close win versus Jacob Boyle, despite Boyle managing to come back from needing two snookers to take the frame to the pink. One of the features of the League Cup is how many matches have been settled on the doubles frame, but the match didn’t get that far as a 37 break from Carlos Schiazza saw him defeat Bill Bainton and clinch a place in the final alongside Fairwater.
