Breaks

Nural Khan 44 (Caerphilly A)
Twm Sion Jones 40 (Fairwater Cons)
Chris Johnson 36 (Canton Warriors)
Rhys Carpenter 35 (Taff’s Well)

Caerphilly A are in control of Group A as a 4-1 win over Macky Misfits moved them top with two wins from two, with Nural Khan’s 44 break enough to defeat Richard Duggan in the opener, before Allan Morgan won on the black against Renato Ridolini. Dave Hartnell’s victory on the colours versus Steve Wellbeloved sealed the win, before Allan Jones defeated Graeme Prance to make it 4-0 but Jacob Boyle’s win over Steffan Davies gave the Misfits a consolation frame to stay in contention.

The race for the other semi-final spot is very tight as only two points separate four sides, with Fairwater keeping their last four hopes alive as they defeated Taff’s Well 3-2 to move into second place. Twm Sion Jones was in fluent form in the opening frame as a 40 break saw him beat Jimmy Llewellyn, but Rhys Carpenter levelled the match after his victory over Dan Bridle. Taff’s Well moved 2-1 ahead thanks to a solid performance from Justin Jones as he defeated Steve Flanagan, but wins for Terry Garland against Kevin Brown and Shaun O’Connell over Rob Hayes gave Fairwater a crucial victory to keep them in the running for the semi-finals.

In Group B, Mackintosh Snooker have maintained their excellent cup form with a 5-0 win at home to Roath Cons to have one foot in the semis and they were 2-0 up as Michael Nessbert and Carlo Schiazza won the opening frames against Alan Wright and Lee Cornock respectively. Billy Connors beat Rob Reid in the next frame before Nathan Dunne’s win over Chris Harding made it 4-0 and Eassa Din completed the whitewash with a black ball win against Andrew Champion.

Rumney British Legion look favourites to join them in the semi-finals after a resounding 5-0 win against previously unbeaten County Cons saw them move into second place in the group with a game in hand over County. Andy McGill comfortably won the opening frame against Dave Earls, before Ben Harding doubled their lead with victory over Suhayb Din. Ethan Chichester’s win against Ryan Bowgen and Frank Deriu’s defeat of Dave Standage made it 4-0 before a walkover for Glyn Hayes completed an excellent night’s work for the Legion.
